I was shocked and saddened to read, on the front page of AZ, of the passing of Al Conte. Al was for many years, the premier table mechanic in the North East. For many years Al set up tables for many, if not most, of the major tournaments in the country. I spoke with Al many times in Binghamton and Utica. Though I didn't know Al real well, I considered him a friend. He always had a word for me when he saw me. He knew the most about pool tables of anyone I've known over many, many years.
Al, I hope you're putting somebody's Gold Crown together somewhere as I type this.
Goodbye, my friend.

thats sad
he was a great mechanic and he even taught this old dog some new tricks at a brunswick seminar.

A fine man and a good friend. One of the premier table mechanics EVER! When he set up tables at a tournament, they were RIGHT!

Al was a short bull of a man, but one of the most pleasant individuals you would ever meet. Always a kind word and a warm welcome for everyone. He would stop what he was doing and shake your hand and say hello, with a smile on his face. A true old school gentleman.

I'm proud to say he was my friend and I will miss him every time I see someone seting up tables at a tournament. It was always comforting to me to know that Al Conte was in the house.

Al was one of the most respected in the pool world, especially up here in the northeast. His passion and determination were unsurpassed.

We lost one of the good guys.

RIP

I met Al for the first time at Turning Stone this past August. A VERY nice man. He was really happy when he saw my dad. Turns out, they were good friends who showed a lot of respect for each other. Later, my dad said he was a great guy and a premier mechanic whom he exchanged ideas with.

RIP Al and it was a pleasure meeting you. Oscar and Ernesto Dominguez

Al was one of the nicest people on this earth. A gentle soul. He was the one who inspired me to become a mechanic. Anytime I had a question about a table he was always there for me. If there is a heaven, I know Al will have a front row seat. Thank you for all you have done for me and the countless others. I will you miss you my friend.
