was nothing short of world class.. :)

Ronnie is THE MAN! I tryed to copy his devastating break ( the one where he demolished the field at the world chanpionships). He draws the cueball straight back to the side rail from where his bridge hand's at with enough speed to come back two rails and back out. The wing ball was automatic and he was looking at an easy one ball, usually a sinch shot into the side pocket.

Back to that break. It's a good one, but i can't get it with slow cloth and dead rails. The only danger i saw was that occationally your going to scratch in the corner pocket. Much less than scratching in the side pocket though! lol (for me) and you never get those bad kicks from the flying around racked balls at that end.

I wish i could have seen him play in person. Totaly jealous you did! It must be a real treat to see world class talent up close and personal like that. It's like the balls move differently for them. Scarey good!. St.

Yep he was at the pool hall I frequent last night and tonight.. too bad nobody wanted to play him.. even offering the top players here some spot.. no takers though.. He only got to play $50 sets.. :D

Did Ronnie lose any of the $50 sets? If so, with who and what spots?
Thanks,
JoeyA

He didn't lose any at the pool room i was at. Closest anyone got to him was where they traded racks till 3-3 and then one mistake, and it was Ronnie's game.

Stretch: He didn't break like he did during the World Championships. Now its just pure power. Makes the wing ball consistently and usually leaves him an open rack.

miko: haven't seen you for such a long time! which hole have you disappeared too? :p catch up with you soon, dude.

Nope, I don't think Ronnie lose any sets.. The closest I think was a race to 9 with Ronnie giving a plus 5 racks.. it came to hill hill.. He played only with the regulars of the pool hall as no top players was willing to gamble with them..

I've been in his company several times and played him as recently as last summer in Shanghai and that photo still looks nothing like him to me unless it was taken about 10 years ago, but if you say so Jay will take your word for it.............there is a lot of shadow in that image but guess the more likely reason is that my eyes are fading a lot quicker than the rest of my poor old body:)

First and third picture is of Ronnie Alcano, second picture of Jharome Pena.

The third picture isn't easy to see that it's Ronnie, but it is.

still play at century, do make the occasional visit to the other pool halls. I'll catch up with you soon, pm me your number if you've changed it. :)

must apologize for what seems like a lot of shadow on the players' faces. as it was a poolhall and there was not a lot of lighting (and i can't use my flash) that was as much as i could do without blowing out the pictures.

still have several others which i'm cleaning up. will post them soon!

That must be some cowardly top players in that room.
Don't the top players in that room realize that they have a chance to not only find out where they stand but they might find a way to improve?

So Ronnie wasn't hiding his speed or going under a fictitious name, he was gambling giving people weight, just not enough weight for the locals to win. That is the way it is supposed to be. Shame on the top players. At my pool hall, the owner MAKES THE TOP PLAYERS play the road hogs.

JoeyA (not a top player) :D

I'm not actually just talking about the top players in the pool room.. I'm pertaining to the top players in this country.. lol.. They don't even want to have a go at pena.. and the players I'm talking about are those that are playing in the Asian 9-ball tour..

Nope, I don't think he can hide his identity anymore.. I guess the locals want a lock before they play.. :D

Now that's just SAD. And I'm disappointed KK didn't even want a run....I thought he was poised to be the action king in Singapore.

First of all. Pool players, be they professional or not are really not as rich as you think they are. They would certainly not like to throw away money if they think that the odds are stacked up against them.

Moreover his visit to that pool hall was not a publicized event. I didnt even know that he was going to be there as neither did many people. I would have certainly throw him a couple of 50s to have a shot at him.

Further more, last weekend was a busy one with the national finals and KK was going to be playing in the finals of an 8 ball team event. I think it would be most irresponsible of him to be putting his focus on anywhere but the team event as he is also the captain of the team.

Finally, i do not know which day those guys turn up at that pool hall but if I read the promotional posters correctly, any money get that is going to occur would have to be after Alcano has finish with his promotional duties which would be past midnight.

Our national players are people too. Some could hardly hang on to a decent job. Alot of sacrificed has to be made. Spending almost all the time and money that they have just trying to make it work.

So i say. if they really think they could not afford to lose then just walk away from it. There is really no shame in admitting that you are not good enough yet. There will come a time when the tables will be turned.
