Alcohol is an issue

How the F do you drop a lifestyle that you know is bad, yet you realize that the alternative is 50 hours a week for one third of what you were making before?

Watch someone go through the DTs or read up on liver and kidney failure, heart attacks, and strokes if you want some inspirational material on what happens when you chronically drink for long periods of time.

Sometimes watching your own behavior on camera, or hearing from someone you respect that you're out of control will make the difference. But in the end it's your choice to make. I don't hear any former addicts ever say they were happier when they were messed up all of the time, they seem happier with a quieter, healthy lifestyle.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Great advice from Joe W. Having an understanding supportive person in your corner will help in more ways than you can imagine. They have to also be a positive influence in your challenge to overcome any addiction. Cold turkey does work for some but everyone is not the same. I have overcome similar things in the past and I had to convince myself that what I was taking amounted to a form of poison. Once I relalized I was poisoning myself it became much easier to stop my self destructive behavior. Hope & pray that the OP gets some positive help for his situation.

Asking for help is a GOOD thing.

I agree with Sloopy. I learned long ago to mix with water. The water hytrates & you can control the strength, LIGHT scoth & water vs scotch on the rocks or full bottles of water between drinks. I probably play a bit better under a bit of influence, or at least I think so, but there is a cliff that once you go over, your game goes down with you & the climb back is a long hard climb that sometimes can not be made in that session.

Pool & alcohol seem to go hand in hand for some of us. Going totally dry is difficult given the enviroment where pool is mostly played. But...you would most probably be much better off if you could turn into a non-drinker or an "I never drink when I'm playing for money." kind of player.

I sincerely hope & will pray that you find your way, which ever is best for you.

Best Wishes,

Haha, I like how you try to disguise outright bragging as some sort of personal crisis.

"Man, how can I quit this fast lifestyle of partying every night, shooting great and winning thousands, to join the boring guys working 50 hours a week to make less money? Geez, this is a real dilemma!"

If you really feel you could be doing better, ask yourself if an addiction to alcohol is the reason you don't, or if it's something deeper. You keep comparing yourself to fast eddie.

First time in ten years I ever saw Minnesota
Fats hooked, really hooked. But you let him
off.

EDDIE
I told you. I got drunk.

BERT
Sure, you got drunk. That's the best excuse in
the world for losing. No trouble losing when
you got a good excuse.

Maybe the alcohol is just an excuse for you to avoid the real work of playing your best pool.
