Alex Pagulayan going to UK to try pro snooker

I basically disagree with everything you wrote :o

Most games I have watched with AP, not only does he move his head, but his entire body.

He will most likely be seen as "The Clown of Snooker" as the etiquette in snooker is quite different compared to pool.

And I basically disagree with everything you just wrote.

In what year did this Cliff Wilson make it to the top 16?

Either late 70s or early 80s....I know the fields were smaller then, but
the top 32 were very strong.
Cliff had quit the game and worked, but the Crucible in 1977 made him
change his mind....a very remarkable come-back.

Remarkable indeed!

Todays snooker scene is a totally different beast though, especially with all the new Chinese players.

Mainland Europe is producing some very good players as well.

I basically AGREE with everything everybody writes.

Either I'm a wimp, or it's a Zen thing.

And I think the internet is a marvelous thing....
...you can be buffaloed in Shanghai...or shanghaied in Buffalo....
....in seconds!

so they make it hard to get onto the tour over there then, probably because they dont want us coming over there and destroying their little Tea parties...lol Hell i could see Alex dominating that game over there too,its not rocket science its hitting balls around on a table with a stick, something Alex has been doing good for years. Smaller pockets, smaller balls, less English and a lot more safety play. He is an exellant safety player. This will be a true test, i cant wait to hear the Europeans cry uncle...:)

True, not rocket science at all - just bloody difficult.

Not really hard. All you have to do is enter the qualifying school. the details are easily available:

How do I become a professional player?
Q School runs for three weeks each May in at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield and gives all-comers the chance to qualify for the professional tour. There are 12 places on the main tour available, with the four semi-finalists in each of three events given a place. Keep an eye on this website for details of how to enter. There are also places on the tour and Q School made available to national international associations, who run their own events and arrange entry into tournaments such as the World Amateur Championship and European Championship. Get in touch with your national governing body to find out more. For a list of NGB websites, click here and scroll down to 'Associations'.

I personally can't see him getting past this hurdle let alone threatening the main tour..

I think all the naysayers are forgetting one thing...

He's the LION!!

Alex has more heart than anyone in pool or snooker. If snooker is strictly about fundamentals and mechanics then I dare to say that snooker players have zero heart! As evident when they try to go pro pool. Lol

It's just a joke... Don't get ur knickers in a bunch! Lol

Alex will succeed in anything he puts his mind to. This characteristic is what separates the lions from the lambs. [Pun intended.]

Most champion pool players do excel in other arenas. It is not just limited to pocket billiards. Corey, for example, and other pros are great golfers. Some can play tennis. I don't know if it's the competitive spirit or that insurmountable mountain they enjoy climbing, but champions know how to succeed.

Most pool players who used to be road players, before the tournament soldiers came to the fore, did play all games, including snooker. You had to if you wanted to survive on the road.

First time I saw Keith play snooker, it was for $100 a game. I had never seen him near a snooker table in my life. It was in Richmond at that pool room where the tournaments are. Beautiful snooker table. Keith won that money.

The more pocket billiard games you have in your arsenal, the better. :D

Go, Alex, go! If anybody can do it, Alex can.

Does he?

It's only a couple of videos, but they're both sizable breaks so there are plenty of shots to see:

Higgins:

Anyway, good luck to him. I don't hold out much hope, but I'm a fan of his so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

The only snooker player I recall to have any body movements is Allan MacManus.
John Higgins is solid as a rock, otherwise he wouldnt have accomplished what he have in his career.

KEY QUESTION:
Does anyone know, how many centuries (100+ breaks) Mr. Pagulayan makes each day in practice?
:thumb up:

PS - You show great minerals Mr. Pagulayan - The very best to you!!!!

He certainly has the snooker stroke, hope his mental endurance lasts as long as the others. I do not think he will reach the very top, but maybe 5th or 6th, which might grant him much more money that all year of pool! Plus he is a good gambler, he might suck few Brits into it for gas money!!, and i am sure all online gambling sites will make him the "horse" to win!

Saying a lot of pro pool players are great golfers doesn't mean Alex (or any pro pool player) would have success at snooker in the UK. Also, despite being excellent golfers, there isn't one that would make the cut on the PGA tour.

I don't mean to take anything away from Keith's win at snooker, but I'm guessing it wasn't against a top snooker pro. Now before you start thinking I'm "hating on pro pool", let me just add that I'm one of Alex's biggest fans. I would love to see him do well in this venture, but as a realist, I have to acknowledge that the odds are severely stacked against him.

fyi, he's leagues above any snooker player in north america and multiple national champion

past pool players who gave it a go were nowhere near his level

having sais that, it's still gonna be tough

Marco Fu tends to lift his head I think.
