all 9 on the break

I saw a Simpson episode where Homer made 15 balls on the break. Course three legs of the table where jacked into the air.

Only 2 ways around this.

1. It's fake

2. The balls are set to go in. It kid of looks like they're not all touching, could be the lighting though.

My opinion? Fake. 2 things make me think that it's fake.

1. He shot that pretty soft and with an open bridge (not that the bridge really means anything other than he looks like a banger). I don't think you can get the power shown in this video with what he had.

2. No reaction from anyone around the table. One guy is walking right by and he just keeps on going. The breaker also just steps off to the side. I'm sorry, if you make 9 balls on the break there's going to be a reaction. I made 6 one time and almost started tap dancing on the rails.

In the end, I say it's fake and just advertising for the pool hall. Notice how they ask to pass that video on to everyone you know. Spam artists.

point one is good but point two it is in Amsterdam

This one was posted on AZB before & I pointed out that several balls went through other balls & such. Not a great job of editting. Pause the video a few times & you'll see what I mean.

I'm curious as to what someone with a physics background and probability background would have to say about the odds of such an occurance. Let's say we're using brand new cloth and the breaker is hitting 30mph. What would be the probability of getting all the balls to reach a rail on the break? Assuming the pockets make up a percentage of the rails, it would then be possible to calculate the odds of making all the balls.

I'm not going to go so far as to say it's impossible. I will say this, I've only been witness to 6 on the break. The only person I've heard that's done 6 on multiple occasions (although I was never witness) was Frankie Hernandez who allegedly breaks around 33mph. The only instances of 7 on the break that I've heard of are on youtube. I've never heard of more than that ever. I'd have to imagine if 9 were done EVEN ONCE, there would be hundreds of videos of people doing 8 and thousands of people doing 7 which simply isn't the case.

Jude, do a search on here about it. Been a number of threads on the subject. As to your last sentence, I don't see where you are getting that from.??? Less than .1% of breaks are ever filmed.

I'm simply saying that if all 9 on the break were a possible occurance AND it was captured on film, then there would undoubtedly be lots of instances of 8 on the break.

I think 8 or more on the break is bordering on mathematically improbable. Perhaps not impossible but the number of instances you'd need to perform a break to get it to happen be would insanely high. Like, do nothing but break all day long for your entire life and maybe, just maybe, you'll see 8.

8 on the break is NOT mathematically impossible, believe me, I KNOW!;) And, I have heard twice of people making all 9 on the break that the person saying so had NO reason to say it unless it was actually done. (it wasn't them that did it)

Neil, that's the reason why I would be curious to see what someone with a physics and math background would have to say about it. Call me a cynic. I'm bored with hearsay.

Only HEARD of it once !

My good friend Joe Salazar told me he made all nine balls once on a bar table. Joe used to be one of the best players in the 60's - 80's.
I personally witnessed him making 7 on the break at a bar table tournament in Ok City 10 or 12 years ago. Brian Cortez(Fat Ralph's son) and I were sitting sweating the match. You may not believe this, but the 7 ball ended up sitting right in the left corner pocket, and the 9 ball was sitting right in the right side pocket. It amazed us.
The most balls that I have ever made on the break was 6 and I wished I hadn't done that at the time. I was playing a guy in Shreveport $200 sets.
This particular game was the last game(hill game for me) of the second set. I may have gotten to pay a third set if not for that. Oh yeah, one of the six was the 9 Ball, also.
To me, to see 3 balls on the break is a lot, 4 balls on the break is rare.
