While you guys were on the lake this memorial weekend chasing bikini clad newbiles, i got anxious about the bocote cue. I put a few other projects aside and spent the entire weekend finishing the bocote.
A few of you were right and a few wrong, I was wrong about the weight of the shaft, my math was off, but over all the cue is ok. by me.
It is a standard 58 inches long, weights 18 8 oz with the shaft making up 5.4 oz. The tip is 13 mm with a modified constant taper. Its .83 at the joint and 1.20 at the butt. no weight bolt and linen fiber rings. It has a 20 1/2 inch balance point. No ferrule and an ultraskin medium tip. I wanted this cue to be as stiff as i could, so the butt is 6 different pieces of bocote angled spliced into each other, the last photo shows the only one that easy to see.
I had couple hrs hour to play with it, it as is solid as any i have ever had in my hands and is stiff. It feels much heaver than the 18.8 don't know why but every one that handles it guesses it heaver. For some reason i could not get a lot of draw with it, but long straight slow shots were much easier. I did not like it for playing 9 ball, but it did break great. I really liked it for playing one pocket. i enjoyed making it and am looking at what other woods might work.
