All-Time Greatest Accomplishments in Pool

mosconi's 500+ ball run. just like wilt's 100 point game, somebody will come close one of these days but nobody will ever beat it.
Well, except for Cranfield's 768, but it was just in practice. And probably on a 4.5x9 instead of a 4.8. And maybe a couple of other runs, like Eufemia's 625 and one of Mosconi's that Ursitti mentions that I think was over 700.

Personally, I think any run of 400 on a 4.5x9 is more impressive than a 526 on a 4x8, especially for a player who has good close position.

Great feats in Pool

One that nobody mentioned but has always impressed me was Sigel's record of winning eleven finals in a row. Not eleven tournaments in a row, but eleven times when he reached the finals, he won. And these matches were against slouches like Buddy, Earl, Efren, Rempe and Varner.

And lest we forget, Jean Balukas won her last 16 tournaments in a row. The fields were not as tough as the current WPBA Tour, but she had to beat Robin, Ewa, Belinda, Mary Kenniston, Loree Jon and Lori Shampo to do it.

These are two that come to mind that are not always recognized and should be.

Someone mentioned Lassiter's record at Johnson City and the Stardust. He did win far more divisions than anyone else. And yes he could play 14.1. The matches in those days were 125 points and you could almost count on Luther to run a 90 or better in every match. I wish there were records of his matches from back then.

my favorite would have to be back to back national championships by the brothers bowman. jamey won the open in 2001. followed by jesse's master's victory in 2002

I would say Wu's winning of two major championship in a year at the age of 16. If he win a IPT qualifier and then an IPT event that would be totally awesome.

Well I know a guy who won a 16 player 8-ball tourney with 15 entrants without potting a winning ball. He got the only bye in the first round, then his 3 opponents either scratched potting the 8-ball or potted it accidentally out of turn.

That's a lot rarer than winning the Squeegee Battery Open 8Ball festival at the Elks Club :p

In terms of greatest players in history performances, the legendary Australian, Walter Lindrum of English Billiards fame should be thrown into the hat:

If I remember correctly, didn't Archer play in a pro event about 10 years ago (in the south??) where he never missed a ball, but came in second place?

I don't know about greatest ever... But Nick Varner's two consecutive US Open wins have to be deserving of mention. Manalo's recent 17 consecutive wins at the IPT King of the Hill tournament should figure in there as well. But this kid Wu is certainly awesome!

Also, Efren's multiple DCC one pocket wins, and 5 world 8 ball titles to go along with his US Open and WPA 9 ball and IPT titles, isn't too shabby! Of course, Souquet has won just about anything there is to be won.
