allison fisher cuetec cues

I have a bar box out on my patio. I did not want to keep one of my good cues in the garage because of heat and humidity. I was lucky enough to run into 2 used cuetec cues on sale here on the forum for almost nothing. One is a Earl Strickland cue. They're kept in the garage for easy access to the table. After almost a year, both are still dead straight. Summer temperatures here are usually between 110 and 120 and that garae gets mighty hot. The year I moved here the temperature hit 124 degrees. I play with a glove and I play well with the Cuetecs. In my opinion, Cuetec builds a good cue at a low price.

I recently purchased an R360 shaft for a Cuetec Mahogany Series butt that I've had for about five years. I posted a review in the "Cue and shaft reviews" section of this forum. It made an incredible improvement to the playability of that older cue. In the hands of someone with much more talent than I have, it would be a formidable weapon, imo. Now, at least here at home, I use this cue all the time, whereas before, it never came out of the case.

Well I dug up one of those cues I got free with my table, it was fiberglass not graphite. I didn't have 1500grit or anything close, so I just hit it with soap and a scotch brite pad which is similar in grit. Worked it over pretty good.

Sure enough it played a whole lot better than I've ever remembered a fiberglass cue. Got rid of all the stickyness, shot quite well with it actually with no glove and clean hands. Started to drag in my stroke again after less than an hour but keeping hands dry and free of perspiration fixed it. Just can't shoot with sweaty hands or even close.

It wasn't a cuetec it's even cheaper, sportcraft... But still straight after who knows how many years old the thing is, and played good actually now that it doesn't hang up in your bridge hand and feel sticky sliding through my fingers. It wasn't feeling sticky from being dirty either, I had tried to wash it and scrubbed it good before and it still had that sticky feeling but not after the scotchbrite pad.


So anyway I guess I was unfair about how much I hate fiberglass cues and how shitty they feel, and so have a new secret weapon to stick in the trunk for those times I'm out without my gear and decide to play. It'll be a kick to see peoples reactions when I shoot with this thing and hope to really piss some folks off beating them with this turd. I wonder if I can put a new ferrule and good tip on. Might think about it... It's just too funny looking not to go out and play with it.:grin:


Thanks for suggesting sanding it JB. They'll come in handy staying in the garage with the table too, I've got two of them...:thumbup:

I've had a Cuetec R-360 for more than a year now. My BB is on the patio too...in hot and humid Tampa, FL. There are many days rain or shine that I leave the cue on the table for hours and it's still straight. These cues are great for the price. Where else can you get a nice looking cue with a LD shaft for under $150. Mine was $136 I think. Johnnyt
 
Hi guys, just a newbie here, and a returning player after about a ten year layoff. Just bought a Cuetec 13-694 Edge series with R360 shaft to be used as well as my 20 plus year old Schmelke.

It cost me $136 out the door for the entire cue off of Amazon.

I don't even know some of the names that some of you guys talk about so I'm no expert at all.

I can say this though ... It's really a nice cue. Granted, it doesn't have big name brand custom sex appeal, but it's sure as hell a lot better than the $250 on sale for $200 Lucasi my buddy just bought ....he even admits it.

I think some just bash for the sake of bashing, which is fine.

I wonder how many would TRULY be able to tell which cue is which if given a 'blind taste test'.

What would some of the bashers say if they actually LIKED a cue and it ended up being a Cuetec ?

I appreciate really fine things too, and have lots of very high end firearms, and stereo equipment, but I still appreciate the affordable ruggedness and quality of a basic Ruger revolver or Sony receiver as well.

Everybody can't own and/or justify $3000+ cue sticks, and for some of those players, Cuetecs have 80-90 % of the performance for 10-20% of the cost.

Not that bad .... Is it ? :D

I'd be willing to bet that if you used one for a few days rather than just a few hits, you'd be even more surprised.

They're quite surprising .... I'm very pleased with it, but having said that .... I've never even tried some of the high-end names you guys talk about. I'm sure they're awesome, and hope to try one some day. I think I'm going to the SBE next month, so maybe I'll see some there.

Big deal. She didn't win those tournaments because of a Cuetec... More like she won inspire of it. The fact she won with that junk shows you how talented she is lol. Is she still playing with it now that she's not being paid? I'm sure not...

You should know that the majority of Cuetec sales are in Asia, not the USA. FTR, Allison won more tournaments with that "crappy" cue than any woman in history. BTW, Cuetecs ARE made of wood.

FYI, The Amazon deal for the 13-694 at $137 shipped with the R360 shaft is the best deal I found anywhere. They were about $180 or more everywhere else.

Just letting you know. :D

Actually I'm on a tight budget for pool right now, so no worries.

Before I could appreciate much better than what I have right now, it will take awhile I'm sure.

My first cue was a Cuetec. I bought it because at the time I knew absolutely nothing about cue and thought it looked cool. I bought it off of eBay for like $30 and played with it for about a year before I bought my McDermott that I still use about 4 years later.

For a new player getting into pool it is hard to beat a Cuetec. You finally have a cue that you can call your own and you feel proud to take it out of the case when you walk in to the pool hall. Often enough beginner players don't have the slightest clue how to make a ball and wouldn't know a good hitting cue if it was stuck up their butt.

That first Cuetec will be the last one I ever use though because after playing with it for a year I absolutely hated that piece of crap. If I knew then what I know now I would have just sanded it down and worn a glove.

But then again... if I knew then what I knew now I would have never bought one in the first place....

Serious question for you: Was it only the SST shaft you hated, or was the butt deficient too?

I ask this because when I first started playing pool a bit more seriously (more than once or twice a year), I purchased a Cuetec to use for APA league play. Not knowing a damn thing about ANYTHING pool-related, I bought a Cuetec because a teammate of mine used one and shot pretty decent pool with it. It didn't help that Allison & Earl were using one, or the fact that Cuetec banners were splashed all over the televised pool match's backdrops. Anyway, I bought a Cuetec Mahogany Series w/SST shaft. It was soon afterwards when I purchased and began to use my first billiard glove :(.
I, like many others, grew to loathe that fiberglass-cladded shaft and less than a year later moved up to a Limited Edition Lucasi then later to a nice Jacoby.

What I'm getting at with my question to you is that after the five or six years after purchasing the Cuetec (and since, literally giving away the SST shaft), I pulled the Mahogany Series butt out one day and looked it over, deeming it to be a well-made butt (yes, even with the veltex grip). So, now knowing that SVB shoots with the R360 shaft, and it being laminated WOOD, decided to purchase a shaft for the butt I had. Turned out to be a pretty decent-hitting cue with the new shaft. Glad I didn't discard (or give away) the butt some time ago.

So, what are your feelings toward the Cuetec butt that you had? Was it crap too, like the shaft? Or did the SST shaft just ruin the whole Cuetec experience for you???
