I was watching her play at a tournament on billiards TV and she played horrible.
Missing rather easy shots and position.
She looked nothing like arguably the best women player ever.
What happened? She is not that old 56 or so.

Not sure what match you saw, but she still plays quite strong - still easily better than any American female player. Name me any pro player male or female that has won anything of significance at her age? Her game has unquestionably not dropped off anywhere near as much as most other top pro players of a similar age - Johnny Archer for example. Yes, she does miss a few more shots than she used to in the course of of a match, and with the current level of competition, those few misses now likely cost her matches whereas previously they didn’t.

The biggest difference in her not winning much now is the level of play among the top female pro players in the world – mostly Asians and some Europeans, that have raised the bar in the last 10 years way higher than it has ever been before.

She was on the hill and cruising at 8-4 against eventual champion Centeno in the world championship semi finals a few months ago. She missed one crucial shot (it wasn’t a hard shot for her) during a run out that she shouldn’t have missed, and that was essentially her last chance in that match. My guess is she is still not completely recovered from that disappointment. I truly think Allison will win another major championship before she considers retiring from tournament competition, which at her age would be unprecedented.

Allison Fisher had everybody dogginnit at one time and then she took the Women's Association chair position - whatever it was at the time
and never dominated again.

Looks like cause and effect to me IDK. I theorize besides draining her time, doing that job right means giving a shit about those whose asses you're supposed to kick. Not a great recipe IMO.
Course maybe she deliberately transitioned. IDK.
Can you tell I'm a fan?

She’s still the best ever to do it.

At the professional level one mistake can cost you a match. The margin of error is huge.

I’ve already seen it at my pool room the other day between two very high level players. One guy is running racks and cannot miss. Up 3 games. Missed the 6 ball on the 4th game and his opponent went ahead and ran 5 racks. He never shot again. Next set same thing but this time his opponent played safety whenever he got the chance. Went from great shooting to paying up and calling it a night.

At my peak I regret not focusing more on my shots. I got to a high level but alcohol was my undoing. I played with the mindset that I was going to get another shot and capitalized on mistakes. If shots are few to come by then I stepped up my game.

I play for fun now and the focus just isn’t there anymore to get back to precision shooting.

Maybe she was having a bad day. I’ve seen her play plenty in the last year and she’s still playing great but obviously age and the talent pool she plays in is catching up

took a break from competitive play but she's back strong now. i think her results the last year has been real good?

We must have watched the same match because I thought the same. I figured she had not been practicing / competing to the same degree she used to. Seemed like she took a break the past years but is starting to get back into it. People also can't live at that top level forever.

I was excited to get to see her back in action. She was one of my favorites and I've missed seeing her play in recent years.

Watched her just a few weeks back here in Wisconsin. She's still pretty good if you ask me. Then again some of these upcoming young players were really impressive and will probably be the future of women's pool.
Kelly Fisher really struggled here and was making many mistakes. Wasn't her weekend I guess. Jasmin was really strong and ended up winning. I don't see both Fishers consistently winning against her in the future.
I was really impressed with April Larsen, and Kristina Zlateva. On another note, it was a real treat for a friend of ours to have Kristina Zlateva actually stay at her house while she was here. Then there was Savannah, who I have seen a few times now. She's a real treat to watch, so mature for her age, strong player, but I really thought she would be progressing a little faster. She does have a tremendous amount on her plate though, plus the fact that I'm sure a lot of time is spent on home schooling.
Some of the other top players I was hoping to see were missing here. but it was really great to watch those that came.

Good post. I have to ask... How much faster do you think Savannah could progress. She's what, 13? 600 Fargo?

You're probably right, that's why I made that comment about her having so much on her plate. Between her sponsorships, facebook site, schoolwork and all the promotional stuff, she really has a full plate. Does seem to have great caring and involved parents and that's a really positive thing. It appears to be working well for her, I'm sure she will have a great future.
When you watch these womens pro events, they all seem to get along so well, there seems to be a bond there that you you don't notice amongst the men. I could be all wrong on this though as I have only seen a few events.

If Savannah hooks up with a really good coach, like Allison or someone, she will easily be the best American female player in just another year or two, and could be good enough to compete with the top international players by the time she’s in her late teens.

It’s just hard to tell with that young of a player, as some of them peak early and then life gets in the way and they never progress any further - Tiffany Nelson 25 years ago for example.

I think Sofia Mast could be right there too. Like you said, it’s so hard to tell how they will progress.
