Allison Fisher

I look at this another way...

I will tell this story again, sorry for those who has heard it before. I went to the SBE for the one and only time several years ago.

I went to see the men play to almost empty stands. It was 8 ball, and they played awesome with amazing runouts or break and runouts on nearly every table. I spoke to Troy Frank about it and he called it a "RUNOUT FEST". The men really played great.

After the men the women played, and I watched what we typically see on TV, lots of safeties, very few runouts, and some general play that I would call poor.

The women played to packed stands, the men played to the sound of crickets.

While part of me says the men deserve it, because of lack of leadership and constant bickering, but we really miss the great play and huge amount of potential winners, and I think you wouldnt have the same two players in the winners circle.

You got to hand it to AF,JL, and all of the women players. They are the ones that are seen on TV.

And why do you think once of the reasons is the women's game is on tv and played in front of a packed house???

They are organized and understand that you dont bite the hand that feeds you. TV is the key. Hell people have been playing poker forever, but once it got on TV it exploded! The men do not play on TV do not really have a mainstream fan following, etc.

If you ask about pool players you always hear, JL or Alision Fisher.

The men have had many many different organizations and tours. IMO, too many. Greed, no trust, no leadership, whatever. It makes me sad to see the woman announced as the "Greatest pool players".

While there are plenty of Earl Strickland fans here, he pretty well single handly killed a tour sponsor by walking out in Detroit in his match against Corey Duell. Sometime you have to take a bite out of the $hit sandwich like the rest of the world does. He should have protested, played the match and moved on. He really showed them didnt he? :(

You're right. I do prefer watching the women but it is more complex than that. If the TV folks and pool organizations went by that standard they would have to setup a live feed to my house with Angel Paglia vs Megan Smith or similar type matchups ONLY.:D

The WPBA has viewers that break down along these lines I think

1) People who know the players. The WPBAers are much more approachable than the men players.

2) Male viewers who as you indicated have what I'll call the "boner factor".

3) Female viewers who are frankly just happy seeing other women being portrayed as professionals.

4) Ther average pool enthusiast who might prefer watching the guys but lets face it the guys couldn't organize their shoes much less a regular tour with "regular televised events". Hell I never know when a mens event is on TV, and/or if it's an event which is likely to be held again next year much less next month (exception would be Mosconi Cup).
