Aloris- Which do you prefer?

So I'm tooling up a new lathe and want to go with an Aloris QCTP. I have always used the wedge type AXA, but have a chance to get a good deal on a BX piston type. The BX is larger and the piston is my second preference behind the wedge holder, so is there really any difference in accuracy and convenience over the smaller AXA wedge style?
 
At work (not cuemaking) we have one of our lathe's set up with a Dorian BXA piston type toolpost, and another set up with Aloris AXA wedge type. Dorian is top tier, like Aloris. It works just as good as the Aloris.

I'd personally go with whatever you have in the rest of your shop. This way you can standardize with one size throughout the shop.

AXA are also more common, and may be cheaper to buy the toolholders if you go the ebay route in the future.

On the flip side, if you have two lathes with different size toolholders, its impossible to mix them up, and you can leave them set at center height. This is what we do at my workplace, where we have many users of different abilities using the lathes.

At home, I have the import wedge AXA set. There is no comparison to Aloris or Dorian in quality. If you can swing it, get the real deal, especially since you will be touching this area of the lathe every time you use it.
 
i've got true aloris cxa on one and knockoff on the other, no comparison...i have found that the knockoff holders are quite impressive at a tenth the price. I'd say that regardless of piston or wedge, if its true aloris then it will probably be pure.

If you happen to have a big ass lathe then i have a fairly new aloris DA with holders that could be had for good deal. but its a monster

Thanks for your perspective. I like the idea of keeping everything interchangeable, but the deal I can get will be hard to beat for the real deal Aloris.

Thanks for your advice. I agree the quality will be there, so no worries there. That DA is toooo big for me!
