I've never tried Prather's Alternative Ivory but I have tried the same named stuff from Masecraft and found it to brittle to use any place that it would have unprotected edges such as a joint or butt cap.

Not sure about the prather alternative ivory, but I have used the Elforyn from Atlas an it rocks, easy to cut and has a nice hit too.

I bought some of the same stuff from mascraft and I can't use it either. It will break too easy. I use it for hoppe rings in cheaper cues for ppl that don't want to pay extra for ivory. I put it on a cue for a joint and every pass no matter how small a pass I take the edges chip out. So I cut it off.

Elforyn is the way to go . A bit pricey , but machines and glues well and looks the part of ivory without the degradation .

Elforyn is ok until you get a piece with pin holes. I've had rod and plate with it in it. And who ever thinks it looks like ivory, sure hasn't seen much ivory.
