Am I weird?

So many people here buy dozens of cues, and it is way more weird to NOT use them, ever, like many also do.
Seconded. Why spend the money on something that's just going to sit in a case or hang on the wall?
I have 2 main cues that i play with, but they're identical other than the pin and appearance. Same shaft, tip, weight, balance, grip. I love that i can grab either of them and not feel the difference. It's different if i pick up one of my others, but i don't do that when i'm actually trying.

Regarding different cues for different games (assuming it's still pool): it's probably all mental and comfort. Nothing wrong with it if you're happy with the way you're playing.

Does anyone else have one cue for 8-ball and another cue for 9-ball? I don’t know why but I feel better shooting with an old Tad with original shaft for 8-ball and a newer McDermott with a CF shaft for 9-ball. Is that weird. (I won both matches tonight with those respective cues.)
When I started playing it was common to use one shaft for Straight Pool and a different one for 9 ball. Never heard of using different cues, thought.

Thanks for the feedback. Some days when I go to play I start out with one cue (could be either cue) and nothing clicks and I switch cues and everything seems right. I play regular APA once a week and Masters APA once a month. I regularly get my butt handed to me in Masters league but I much prefer the format and I think it elevates my game. At 61, anything that elevates my game is a plus.

please post your fargo rating . i bet most that do these things have a rating below 600.

when you are not really good comparably at something you tend to look for other things to make you play better.

I could see it. I don’t move the cue ball around as much playing 8 ball so something with a stiffer shaft might feel better then in 9 ball where I want something that I feel I can get more out of the cue ball.
Would I do this ? No. I like to keep everything as much the same as possible to the point I even wear the same kind of shoes when practicing that I do when out playing lol Maybe that makes me weird 😂

what does that have to do with anything lol I only have like a mid 500 but I play in nothing fargo rated except an acs league one session that you play 1 game against someone and they reported it. Fargo is meaningless if your not playing in regular Fargo events

I have a one hole cue, 14:1 cue and several others I like to take out and knock the rust off playing 9 ball, but mostly have different shafts for those games. I have slightly diff strokes for each, requiring different hits, so to speak. Works for me.

Absolutely weird (in terms of normality) yet totally logical. In 8ball/14.1 you need more touch/precision which you get in wood vs cf, you move cueball way less than in rotation games. While in rotation games you need much more power which favours cf vs wood. Its akin having many different golf clubs in your bag, you dont usually use 3-wood on 30 meter chip-in and you dont use 7-iron on 300 meter drive. Also you can use this difference between wood vs cf on tables with new/fast cloth (wooden shaft is more suitable as you dont have to power your shots usually) vs old worn slow cloth (cf gives you that power to overcome the higher friction of the cloth).

I have two Cues in my Case, depending on how I fell is reason I play with one or other. Mostly play ONE POCKET. Both work for game, a house Cue works if you have no personal Cue, but have skill.

People gets all into Cue, Golf Clubs, Tennis Rackets, etc. They are TOOLS. Tool preform will with Skilled person using them.

Pool is game of SKILL, not TOOLS. Give a Banger a Black Boar that cost 30K, they are still banger.

I don't have different cues for different games.....but I do have a different cue for a different venue......If I am going to be playing in some back alley hole in the wall bar room and don't want to carry a case, break cue etc...or worry about theft, close proximity table, chair and wall dings......I will break out the Andy Scott Lumber Yard Special.....house cue looking cue that plays great on a unleveled valley bar box with mud ball.....also... broken down in hand (with no case) makes for quick access to a billy club for self defense....;)

" Back in the day", when the oversize cueball was common on the coin op tables, I had 2 shafts. One a little fatter for the punkin ball.
In conversation Cole told me that straight pool favored a stiffer shaft than 9 ball. As straight pool required short precision shape and 9 ball required moving whitey over greater distances. He wanted a shaft with more flex for 9 ball. His analogy was the pole vault. I think it came up in discussions of Schon cues and the fact that they had a stiff shaft. His comment was, "they are straight pool cues". Cole shot with a Joss (East) and often hawked his cue. I bought mine from him on one occasion when he went bust in Seattle. He was ready to go to work building a fence and had an offer of 150 for the cue that had a broken and repaired butt. I gave him 200 for it. At the purchase conversation it was Joss West, 6 months later at our next encounter it was Joss East. 🤷‍♂️ didn't matter to me. Cole had broken the butt right at the joint. He at times would lay the cue over his shoulders and drape his hands on each end. The time it broke Stolies vodka was a factor. Definitely a factor the night he went broke (again). The wrap had a nick and eventually the thread separated. When removed it showed Cole and the date. It also has a number scribed in the stainless steel joint. Seems that Cole's specks were kept on file and he would just call and say make me another.
Guess that's enough Rambling for this morning. 😉

Lol I had my sneaky claimed by an opponent when I laid it on the table to use the rest room. I came back and he had it with a death grip on the shaft and refused to see that it wasn't a bar cue. I just reached below his 2 hands and gently started unscrewing the butt. It was amusing when his expression changed from "let's fight" to uh "what the hell". And yes if he had remained with the let's fight attitude I had the club and he had the shaft. 🤷‍♂️
