Am I wrong about this?

For the last few days I was watching a Runde Schon on ebay. The seller, who looks like an internet pawn shop operation, didn't know it was a Runde Schon but I could tell from the pictures that it was a Runde with stitched rings and sharp points and apparently multiple veneers in the points.

Somebody e-mailed the seller and told him this:

Q: what you actually have is a rare early schon cue referred to as a "runde era" cue. the yellowed ferrule is micarta(not ivory but more expensive!) and the rings are "stitched" instead of the later silver rings. it predates the stl series. the points are sharp instead of rounded as well, anotherpoint that will increase the poolplayers interest(and bids!). nice cue! A: THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO :)

Why would you deliberately drive up the price on a cue that's on e-bay? Would you go to a pawn shop and tell the owner if he has any valuable cues so nobody can get a good deal?

I don't know if it made a difference in the price or not, but it had been at $400 for several days until somebody told the world it was a "rare early schon" and then it jumped to $800 after the identification. The price doubled after the seller found out what he had. If the seller really wanted to know what the cue was he could have easily found out before he posted it.

I am not sure why he would have told him that either.
I dont feel sorry the the pawn broker. He would have missed out on more $$, but he was still earning his regular 200-300+% markup on what he sold. I actually feel worse for the poor sap that sold him the cue for peanuts.

You should have bought it while it was cheap. that's the basics of economics, buy and sell primarily.

How could I buy it before the auction ended? Do you know something about ebay that I don't?

It also could have been the seller having his buddy ask the question.
It happens.:(

Most E-bay auctions have a "buy it now" price listed on there.

If he knew it was a Runde he would have included it in the original auction so that a search for Runde would have brought up the auction. This seller is a high volume dealer with over 6,000 sales and currently 160 items up for sale. The seller didn't know it was a Runde until somebody told him.
