American 14.1 Straight Pool Championship (Oct 24-29), Norfolk, Winner $10K

A random question to pool fans, as I understand it straight pool is one of the oldest forms of pool and requires a high level of skill with luck playing less of a part than other games.
i think the luck factor is the same in every game, dont know when its gonna happen and if its good or bad for you

I would agree with this sentiment. You can’t eliminate luck but straight pool is probably the game where it plays a slightly smaller role. Outside of the call pocket component, it’s harder to miss and leave your opponent nothing. There is usually a shot or a safety you can play, especially with deliberate fouls.

So it’s not like how an opponent can miss and leave you locked up. The straight pool break shot is way more predictable than 9 ball or 10 ball break shots. So top players are way more confident in responding to a 50 ball run with a 50-70 run of their own.

It’s not perfect though since you can always break off, accidentally leave a dead one and then your opponent run the game out on you. And no game safe from funny rolls. But then, the better you get, the fewer funny rolls you receive.

Would be nice if digitalpool could somehow show player high runs.
Currently no, but it is possible.
It would rely on organisors to enter that, if they had field to do so.
Shouldn't be too hard.

Stats for now and performance are two options on the bracket view.

IMO, there are many things more knowledgable player do to reduce bad outcomes -- you can't eliminate it all but the more you reduce certain factors the longer and more consistent your runs.

Not a major upset. Max is a Derby City 14.1 Champion with plenty of 14,1 pedigree. Don't sleep on 2009 European Straight Pool Champion Dmitri Jungo, either.
Max lived with me for about 6 months in Vegas. We’ve played a lot. I was just happy he had a good solid win today. 125-40 I think. Idk what his hi run was.

Great tourney!

I can’t play a lick of 14.1 but I really enjoy watching it.

Hope your good Stu😃😃

Wonder what was high run in those matches.

So far, Fargorate 700-800 players outperforming the 800+. This event has been won by sub800 players like Chinahov, Konrad J
I suppose Fargorate is less reliable for straight pool since it cover mostly rotation 9b,10b events and very little straight pool 🤣

I love straight pool but watching John Morra taking 18, long, slow, pre-lim strokes on a 6 inch
bunt shot frys my nerves. Great player, can't watch it.
Morra was always a deliberate player, but I think he is even slower now that he is shooting left handed. I still think he isn't fully comfortable shooting left handed, hence why he takes even longer

Definitely a modified skill set from the usual high octane rotation games. Perhaps even more so than one pocket, which seems to have been broken by the top shooters?
