Max has always been one of my personal favorites. We caught up at length at the recently completed US Open in Atlantic City. I once gave him a lesson in 14.1 defense just before one of the Dragon 14,1 events. I think it was in 2010.Max lived with me for about 6 months in Vegas. We’ve played a lot. I was just happy he had a good solid win today. 125-40 I think. Idk what his hi run was.
Great tourney!
I can’t play a lick of 14.1 but I really enjoy watching it.
Hope your good Stu![]()
Doing digital stats for straight pool seems far different than any other pool game, I imagine. It would probably fit best on the players page, if it can be done at all.Currently no, but it is possible.
It would rely on organisors to enter that, if they had field to do so.
Shouldn't be too hard.
Stats for now and performance are two options on the bracket view.
He played a lot of 14.1 at my house when he practiced alone which was often. One thing he likes to practice was the Buddy Hall style as he referred to it-and keep his CB on a super short leash as much as possible. Sometimes he’d try and not hit a cushion for as long as possible with the CB-obviously high runs weren’t the objective. The idea was to make as many and work the stack to squeeze as much out of it as possible while never sending the CB to a cushion.Max has always been one of my personal favorites. This is current problem with the entire world-of-pool today = No big-time commercial sponsors putting up heavy weight purses; with, the associated mainstream TV media promotion.there needs to be a bigger prize fund for WPA to sanction it as a world championship, so it's basically a matter of money / sponsors

Without sponsors like: "Big Tobacco, Big Alcohol, Big Pharma, Big Insurance, Big Auto, etc.", and, without old school 'ABC Wide World of Sports' or ESPN level hype, promotion, and coverage, we are doomed to little purses, less exposure, and, less presence in the big world outside the little world of pool - and it is that big world which ultimately determines the future of our little world of pool. - GJ
Somehow it works with snooker in the UK. If you ask me, snooker is at least as slow, if not slower, than straight pool.there's also the factor of attention span. i doubt straight pool will ever be palatable for TV channels and their audiences, simply because it is perceived as too slow.
Did someone say, Peter Ebdon? Many of today's players are quick except in really tough situations. Like Ronnie. Compare and contrast:Somehow it works with snooker in the UK. If you ask me, snooker is at least as slow, if not slower, than straight pool.
I would agree generally, but alternating between reds and colours makes snooker easier for casual fans to follow. With 14.1, if you don’t know the game, it can look a bit haphazard and random. It doesn’t help when commentators struggle to predict the players patterns. And that is common, because I feel like many commentators are trying to apply classical 14.1 thinking to 9 ball players who have a more unorthodox approach. Personally, I’d hate to commentate 14.1. because the players would make me sound silly.Somehow it works with snooker in the UK. If you ask me, snooker is at least as slow, if not slower, than straight pool.
Snooker is not as slow as De Luna plays straight pool*.... snooker is at least as slow, if not slower, than straight pool.
I am reminded of when Warren Kiamco had a qualifying attempt at the DCC 14.1 Challenge. It took him one hour and forty minutes to run 97. It was in about 2010. It was not easy to watch.Snooker is not as slow as De Luna plays straight pool*.
* Ebdon excepted.
Seems like that attention span is getting shorter. I’m noticing more posts referring to “unwatchable” because the players are too slow.there's also the factor of attention span. i doubt straight pool will ever be palatable for TV channels and their audiences, simply because it is perceived as too slow.
Yes, I think most of us would be very happy if it was Shaw vs Filler in the final of this event.Seems like that attention span is getting shorter. I’m noticing more posts referring to “unwatchable” because the players are too slow.
