American made

Some years ago a pool player/ biker/ cue dealer
in Daytona told me that very few production cues
were completely American made.
He cited Schon, McDermott & Player?
I know Player is Chinese. Has this always been
the case? If not, when did they go Chinese?
I have a bet riding on the outcome of this.

Hmmmm i was under the impression McDermott and Schon were 100% made in the USA. I would bet on it too!!

Come on Don! No gambling now! LOL

Seriously, I thought McDermott was 100% American made. A friend of mine has been to the factory once or twice - he sells their cues. I forget where it was but I'm pretty sure it was in the US.

How about posting it here too for those of us that are interested.

There might be a pickle or a few potato chips in it for you... ;)

Schon - USA
McDermott - USA
Meucci - USA
J. Pechauer - USA
Jacoby - USA
Joss - USA
Viking - USA
Samsara - USA

As far as the larger operations, I think that's it. The rest would be custom.

I think you might want to give McD. a call on that. I don't think they will tell you anyway!

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Player was the only one I was
addressing as a used to be American, now Chinese.

Even years ago when Bob Meucci took a lot of pride
in his work I heard they weren't 100% American made.
But.... it was the same guy in Daytona who told me that.

Along the same topic, I bought one of those Mcdermott
Shamrock cues on EBAY. Pretty but flawed workmanship.
No McD logo!?! Doesn't hit like a McDermott. Hmmm, what's going
on?

I originally posted that I would bet Schon cues are not American made, but I chickened out and deleted it. I thought they were German or something like that.

In 1991 the General Mgr. for Mcdermott took me through their new facility in Menominee Falls, WI which was a very interesting 1/2 day tour. It is my understanding that McDermott Cues has since been bought so they could be made someplace else.

From what I understand, some of them are made in China and finished and wraped in WI.

Someday I'll read that parts for Harley-Davidsons are being made in China and I will then consider it truly hopeless for our manafacturing sector. :(

My buddy builds the automation equipment for Harley (among other mfg companies). So, I'll let you know if he starts shipping them to China.
