an honest review of the hustlers

One of the real things missing and of course we haven't seen the rest of the episodes. A pool match attracts a lot of attention in a pool room. Two guys playing for $2000.00 in any pool room are going to have a pretty good audiance.

They also play for a while. In the movie the Hustler one of the most atmospheric parts was the room in the middle of the night with the players playing and a bunch of watchers curled up in chairs. It had a real gladiator sense to it but in a quiet way. You could feel the tension.

This one set stuff, no one watches and they quit, WTF. That is not what happens in a real pool room.

I'm skeptical that 1P can be made exciting for TV - too much safety play to fire up the masses. Even pool players who don't play it find it boring to watch.

Personally, I love to watch a good 1P match, but what are the odds we'd see one with this cast, and what are the odds that many of the viewers would appreciate it anyway?

Again, I'm not proposing showing to show a full 1P game; they don't even show a full 9-ball game.

I'm proposing 10 seconds to say "The game is one pocket. The spot is I have to make 6 balls here before he makes 8 balls there. We can both make any ball any time." Then 20-30 seconds to show a few Frost-style Power 1P shots with lots of OB and CB multi-rail travel. Wham bam, done!

I have Comcast Cable and can watch episodes On Demand.
Last night I selected On Demand, then Tru TV, then scrolled
through to discover they have the Show listed as The Hustler.
Boy, will folks be disappointed if they were expecting Paul
Newman and Jackie Gleason.
I could not force myself to watch episodes 1 & 2 again. :nono::nono::nono:

On a lighter note...did you know that there is another reality show in the works down in Atlanta? This weekend ( tomorrow) they are hosting a tournament that will double as the audition process ( by the way, the public is invited to watch) ....they will then select 8 final " characters" for the show taping. No professionals just regular pool players , no scripts, no re-takes, no fake shots, just " real" reality. It sounds pretty cool.

We will have an interview with the senior producer tonight on ABR if youd like to hear more about it.

Wow. That would be great. I could watch it and be at the poolroom when I am home. I am being serious. There really is nothing I watch on TV other than sports and an occasional movie.

That wouldn't be anything like one pocket, but of course this show isn't about pool...

I think you're playing the game way to conservatively!

lol - I wish that was true!

When faced with a choice between a simple safety and a circus shot that risks everything (but will be lots of fun), guess which one I always go for? Ask anybody whose rent I pay regularly...
