An idea for Streaming

Why don't a few of us work with some of the tours that come through our area that already stream to improve and that dont stream to start .I would be more than glad to
help anyone who streams with any issue they have.No one person knows it all but maybe together we could help some of the tournaments cut there cost and have more of an "in house" streamer and that would pass the money saved on to the ones that deserve it 1st place,2nd place ,and 3rd place ......that's right the players.:thumbup: This would greatly cut down on travel cost of streamers running all over the place and could even be considered a more green aproach.......I aint no tree hugger :p

I would be up for it, I could cover some of the Southwest if someone has a tournament in AZ, California or Vegas, just let me know and we can work the details out. :smile:

I have tried to help some people get going but you can only do so much, it takes money too so you can have a high quality stream, I am talking about people trying to use a webcam to do it, it just is no good. I do think if we all pooled our ideas and experiences we could help one another to have a quality broadcast. This Saturday I will be helping a streamer in my state get the stream they have much better then it was by far.

Why not use a webcam to start with? I heard the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 2.0 M Effective Pixels Up to 1600 x 1200 30 fps USB, available at Amazon for $85 would be decent to start with.

I would appreciate if someone would point me to a good Streaming HOWTO and I would very much prefer one that includes doing it with Linux and a 1GHz 512MB laptop.

I have been thinking about getting the Logitech webcam for recording shots/analysis and streaming our local tournaments.

Yeah Joey, You have many times told me that streaming should be local and regional and I guess it sunk in . My part would be that we should work with these people to get started and or improve.I'm not refering to any of the bigger events really just some of the local stuff .Thanks Uncle Joey:eek:

streaming equipment

How about start with the minimum equipment needed, and make a list sorted by importance to get started. Also you could recommend brands ect.

If it wasn't too much to get started i would be interested in streaming a few local tournaments.
 
I would say for those looking to get started you need a reasonably fast laptop, 2gb or Ram and minimum duo core. Get a mini-dv camera with a big chip in it whether it is 1 or a 3 chip camera. Good internet connection of around 500kbps and make sure you have a decent mic for audio. You could get started cheaply, make sure to ask questions before you make purchases and get help on software to use also. I just helped the local tour here straighten up there stream and here is the before and after. :)

Motivation for Streaming

Besides the adventure and fun of streaming, pool rooms need to think about the benefits of streaming. They can keep customers interested in pool, reach new potential customers and just advertising in general. A pool room owner could target the league players by building a database of email addresses to notify when "league streaming" is going to take place, etc.

You can donate money all day and once those $'s are gone your giving is gone. And you are only limited by your current limited donation $'s.

To make a lasting impact on billiards streaming, a business model needs to be applied (think about Cuesmith lathes). All someone needs to do is figure out how to make this new medium work. Build a starter kit. With all instructions to do so. Incorporate it with website building (including using email correspondence, logo building, etc.). Give a contact list for possible links to other businesses. Now you have a business that facilitates small businesses (which make the billiards industry grow). Not only that, but it keeps making a difference.

The billiards industry is small business centric. If you want to make a real difference, look to helping small businesses be profitable. I really wish BCA already did things like this for the room owners and regional tours. They are in the best position to do this. Of course, they are not a for-profit business and that leads me to the conclusion that a for profit company offers the most lasting help!
