An Idea for Transporting Cues on the Airlines

Other than specific flight cases, has anyone tried packing your case, wrapped in bubblewrap, in a cardboard box filled with "popcorn" filler? If not, any concerns about doing that?

would that be a good thing to do tho? the cargo hold is not pressurized so it's very cold. would the box and peanuts provide adequate insulation like a normal case should? im sure that the cold temperature probably wont do anything to the cue if it's just being flown somewhere in one day but it's better to be safe?

Before I bought a Porper travel bag, I simply put my case in a cardboard box that used to hold plotter paper. I cut out sections and tied rope around the box to make a handle, wrapped the case with a little bubble wrap. Worked like a charm until I got the Porper bag.

Today, I have an oversized duffel roller bag.

can't bring the as a carry on... so we are going to pack all of our cues for the team in one suite case and just insure it for 10k - 15k... whatever they are worth.

If it wasn't pressurized, there'd be a lot of exploded liquids in there. As far as I know, it's pressurized and might even be heated, or else some things might freeze up at high altitude.

I always thought that as long as your cue is insured if it's damaged at least you can collect the insured value, well according to a post by Bamacues it can turn into a problem:

Check that thread out if you want to read how badly you can be treated even if your cues are insured.

We are talking about two different things here. His was insured by the post office because it was shipped. We will be insuring one suite case on the airplane since all the cues will be in there. It would be dumb to insure everyones suite case if they all put there own cues in there suite cases, so we figured it would be better to put them all in one bag and insure the whole thing. Has anyone tired this while traveling?

when we went last year ,thats what my team did . We put all of our cases in one big suite case ,and tied a funky ribbon on it so we could see it at pickup, and no one would think it was theirs.

Im not sure what airline you are taking, but most, will only cover up to a certain amount.

Continental for example says:
"For travel entirely within the U.S. on or after Feb. 28, 2007, Continental's liability for any form of damage as a result of loss, damage or delay in delivery of a customer's personal property shall be limited to the fair market value at the time of loss, damage or delay and will not exceed $3,000.00 per customer, except for wheelchairs and other assistive devices."

I travel extensively and almost always take my 2x4 travel package. You can get a FREE fold up and tape tube from FedEx. I place my player, jump cue, break cue & accessories in it and seal it up in the tube. With a permanent marker write your name and phone # on the outside. Then I check it with my bag(s)

Never had a problem. DO NOT lock anything though, they will break your locks.

This is what I do. Works perfect.

Godspeed!
