An interesting league situation.

It was stated that he hit the rail/rails near the OB, the QB went on to contact one or more rails and then make contact with his own ball for a "good" hit at some time after the original called ball/pocket fell. IMO if the balls QB/OB/own balls where in motion as the original OB fell its a fair pocketed ball and shooter remain at the table to continue his run

You have to be kidding right ?

I think you can tell the skill level of players responding to this post just by what they say should be done.

Very simple.

Can you cite a rule to this effect (You can't just vibrate balls in; you have to shoot them in) ?

<edit, never mind, I found it myself, it's covered in the last section of the "general rules" on the bca website>

4.11 LEGAL SHOT
(Defined) On all shots (except on the break and when the table is open), the shooter must hit one of his group of balls first and (1) pocket a numbered ball, or (2) cause the cue ball or any numbered ball to contact a rail. Please Note: It is permissible for the shooter to bank the cue ball off a rail before contacting the object ball; however, after contact with the object ball, an object ball must be pocketed, or the cue ball or any numbered ball must contact a rail. Failure to meet these requirements is a foul.

Without cracking a rule book for now, I will just call it my opinion.

However, the official rule sets that I've played by (WPA & BCAPL) have a rule that covers a ball that has stopped moving but then later falls in without being hit again by a ball.

Not being allowed to vibrate balls in is my conclusion based on that rule. I think the spirit of the rule is that pool involves balls knocking other balls into pockets. Others may disagree. :)

Your opinion seems correct :

from playbca.com

General Rules

1.49 Balls Settling or Moving
...
4. If a hanging ball drops into a pocket by itself as you are shooting, the ruling depends on the ensuing action of the balls:

a. if no ball passes through the region previously occupied by the hanging ball, it is restored and play continues;

Bingo. This solves it. Thanks.

you have to make contact with the object ball for it to count. you would spot this ball as close as possible to where it was and the shooter is done.

What regulation says that you have to make contact with the object ball, please specify.

you say "you have to be kidding right" and then you post this rule, this basically says the same thing as what I stated and you questioned my skill level? whats up with that
