An issue I feel needs attention in this section...

There is a chat feature at the top of the page. I went there once and stayed for 30 mins. and no one came on. I don't think many even know it's there.
I checked that out a few times myself, there has never been anyone there. I just figured I was doin somethin wrong. Anyone know why it isn't used ?

Realtime??

How about a phone call to finalize the deal thats pretty "real time" & virtually everyone has a phone.

the only way i can see this problem ending is to have a real-time chat. if this were the case then cory would have my money for the cue. if both are in direct contact with each other then there is no excuse to not send payment. like a facebook chat feature.

Had this happen to me on eBay with a cue I sold. The crappy part is that they never bothered saying they weren't gonna pay for it. Told me they would send a money order which never came. Told em I would send as soon as I got the money order. Then messaged again to tell em that I would put an unpaid buyer strike against them unless I either get the money order or receive some sort of message about it. Didn't get either so took up with eBay and blocked em from bidding on anything I sell again. Sadly I found out that it also happens to be a member here.

It's a fine line sometimes.

I just had a deal this weekend where I had one guy saying he wanted something, then another. I told the one "first come, first serve", then didn't here anything else that night, the second guy says he wants item, I basically agree but before we can finalize the transaction, 1st guy contacts me again and wants to pay me so I gotta now tell 2nd guy item is sold because I feel obligated to stay with the "first come, first serve" promise. As anyone who sells things online knows, buyers remorse happens from time to time. Just the way it is.

Deals "pending" are just exactly that, not a finalized deal til the $$$'s in the bank.

As a seller you want interested parties to stay interested but not knowing for sure when a deal is "on the fence" and which side of the fence it's gonna fall on you are walking a fine line basically agreeing to sell to 2 people sometimes but at the same time I think most people understand that $$$ talks.

GOOD COMMUNICATION is always the key ingredient to having good transactions.

All in all though, I'd have to say 95% or better of all my dealings have been positive in most respects. You're never going to achieve 100% in the long run. I'm amazed my Ebay rating is over 1500 now with 100% positive feedback. It's just a matter of time before I run into "One of those" deals, and I know it.

I was going to purchase a Tad cue on here one time and I asked the seller to hold it for me. When the time came other things were going on that demanded my cash more than a cue and I had to back out. I doubt he was very happy about that but let me say that I was totally bummed about it too. I hate telling someone I'm going to do something and then having to back out. I really did feel bad about that for at least a week afterwards.

2 other cues I bought here I asked for the seller to wait more than a month, both of them did and both transactions went smoothly.

If I had a dollar for everyone that said "save that cue for me", I would be living next door to Fatboy out west, with a 20 table room.

First with the cash gets the merchandise, period.

To those who have responded, thank you. I think only positive things can come from this discussion.

TO PunchOut: I would respond to this via PM, however, since you posted this in the thread, I will respond here.

I must be missing something here? So, I didn't give you an opportunity to pay for the item? This almost sounds like you spent the money elsewhere prior to paying?

I'm not and wasn't trying to make a scene with PunchOut. Like I said in my OP, this is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened on here and I've just had enough.

Also a few extra details to put this deal in perspective. This was not one of those "can you hold it for me" transactions. This was a "I'll take it for the asking price" transaction. A PM was sent with the PayPal address. I had something else in motion, so later in the day I asked when he was going to pay. I got a response saying "when I get the money for my Varney" to which I assumed he had just sold. This was not agreed to prior (waiting for payment), but I was willing to overlook. He had, I think, 6 transactions in the last 6 months. Then the next day, I got the "I can't buy it" PM.

Also, some have alluded to "just moving on". That's fine, I'm not going to dwell on this. I certainly will not do business with PunchOut in the future, but this thread was intended to put these types of transactions in the spotlight. We, as a community, do no one any good if these transactions are minimized and swept under the rug. This type of business in unacceptable any way you cut it.

Just noticed this was moved to the main forum. This was originally in the For Sale forum and was intended to be there.

That is the nature of transactions. Nothing new and part of the selling process...I will give you that it sucks when you have the thought item is sold, then it isn't. It would be nice if the flakes would leave others out of their crisis.

Should the Admis get involved? Unless there is a crime, no way.

I would like to draw attention to transactions that are agreed to in this forum and then backed out on by the buyer. An example of this would be to receive a PM or phone call stating that they (the buyer) agreed to purchase the item. A day or two goes by, you get another PM or call with them backing out.

My gut tells me this happens all the time, as it has happened to me 3 times now. I am done sweeping this under the rug. In my latest transaction, this happened. I have left a negative I-Trader, and also posted the negative in the two appropriate "Stickys".

I know these things can happen the other way around too. I would have the same feeling toward a seller backing out once a deal had been made.

I know that not everyone will agree with this stance, and may be considered overboard by some. When these things happen, it wastes the sellers time, as well as potentially losing other deals. If taking this stance influences future sales with me, then so be it.

That would be the wrong place for it!;)

I don't think we buy or sell things in the main forum? That's why it was posted in there.

EDITED TO SAY: I understand the stance that this thread isn't selling anything. However, this thread pertains directly to buyers and sellers, thus the thread title (An issue I feel needs attention in this section). If I had put it in the main forum, I would have titled it differently, so those who don't care about buying and selling wouldn't bother to look.

Yeah, I'm with you 100% here, it sucks.....unfortunately, society as a whole sees the internet as this secret place where you can lie and cheat without consequence......too many people hide behind screen names and too often you will hear "it's just the internet".....I'll stay off my soapbox, but it also happens far too often in real life.....people no longer see a handshake as a contract and nobody gives a crap about giving their word......too many people hide behind legal bs because I think if individuals were given an old fashion beating, this crap would subside.....

Here are my thoughts on verbage I have heard as a seller:

"I want it, how do I send payment" - if you accept, it's sold....period....backing out is unacceptable....

"I'm working to get the money, I want it" - my reply, as soon as you get funds, I will be happy to sell, but I will not hold the item - if this is a friend or someone I know well, might be willing to hold, but that is an exception...

"I'm interested in your cue" - this doesn't mean anything....

I understand emergencies, circumstances, and the like, but far too many pop off, initiate a contract (provide an offer and get acceptance), only to back out because of buyer's remorse or simply making an offer before they actually get permission from whomever has their ballz in their pocket :D

...this thread isn't selling anything...
