hello my fellow pool players i have lately been thinking that it is not ment for me to become a good pool player and im thinking of quitting

ive recently had to sell my 3 pc slate table for medical bills and money is leaving my pockets quicker than i would have ever imagined so now i have nothing to do but quit playing even though its the only thing that relaxes me anymore

has anyone else gone through what im going through and just felt like quitting if so tell me about it and what you did mabye im not suppose to quit but i dont see an alternitive

Your 18 and your quiting already? Things maybe rough now, but it can and will get better. If it is money problems then you don't have to quit the game entirely just slow down on playing for a bit.

I hope this doesn't have anything to do with dealing with a learning curve though. When I was teaching guitar I had so many students who quit because they didn't become good players in a month. Just about anything takes about 3-5 years of practicing before you start getting good at it.

I took guitar for maybe 8 months before i quit. I practiced hard but it never came. Some friends who just picked it up with no lessons played better than me in a month or two. I KNEW i had no talent for it at all. Some things either you have it or you don't-Music and Spelling are two that come to mind.

I took 3 years off, and came back wanting it more than ever. Begin older means I see the table better, :D

When I had to quit playing pool after a heart attack and two strokes it was like losing my best friend. I had played for over fifty years. Johnnyt

Its deffinatly not a learning curve problem i know i can do it i think pool is somthin that you CAN DO NO MATTER WHAT its not something that you have or dont have its just both of my parents recently where struck with health related problems dad had a heart attack and mom is having some weird ass seisures where she walks around not knowing what shes doing or who she is and im scared outta my mind and all my money is going to help them and i dont know how long there gonna be here and im only 18 so you can imagine the pressures on me im not even out of high school yet its crazy

and on top of that my girlfreind is being an ass and wont lemme buy a cue that i KNOW IS DEFFINATLY WORTH THE MONEY....do u all think i should drop her? lol.....seriously though

Just for curiosities sake, what kinda cue is it and how much?

Judging by your signiature I'd say stepping up in the cue department probably couldn't hurt things.. Given the scenario you gave with your parents though I think I'd be selling my shit right now, not buying new stuff.

If you are looking at upgrading though (dispell all the haters) a baseline Lucassi plays pretty damn good for the money. I have (and had) Schon's, Joss's, Falcon's, several customs from various guys, random sneaky petes, Lucassi's, the dreaded Meucci's (didn't like it BTW) etc.. etc.. Probably owned more cues then alot of the people on here at one time or another.. The funny thing is one of them will always bring itself out of my selection and I'll end up playing with it, I don't care what the name of it is if it plays good it plays good. I currently play with an older Joss sneaky pete, and I'm waiting on my Frey to get here.

You don't need to buy some expensive cue to get the nice hit. A cheap Joss, Baseline Falcon, Schon etc.. Play the same as a 5,000 dollar cue from the same mfg. Same shaft, same joint, same taper is all ya really care about.

I'd look at a Predator sneaky pete, or "other" sneaky until you learn how to play. If and when you get better and you have an interest in having a "fancy" cue by it then.

If you fear losing your parents, spend your time with them and put the pool on hold. You can always pick pool back up, but if god forbid you lose a parent, that's time you can't get back. With all the stresses that go with the familial situation you describe, you'll be too pre-occupied to focus on pool anyway. This lack of concentration will make you play worse and create the kind of frustration that makes people want to give the game up forever. Pool is a hobby, family is family. Hard choice?.

well i dont know its more of a private dealing so i cant disclose any info....but for the record i have been selling my "shit"

i had a 3 pc slate table NICE i loved it and i had to sell it but i recently got enough money to get a walmart table...one of there good ones they use to sell b4 they started making shitty stuff and im starting to try to play again its been about 6 months since i picked up a cue and i NEED A GOOD ONE TO PICK UP lol as for the girl shes *****in cuz our aniversery is comin up buy i spend ALL MY MONEY ON HER AND NEVER ON ME

I got a Fury cue for my girlfriend....I thought it was a pretty good trade!:D :D (I know, it's an old joke, but I couldn't resist!)

At 18, I'd definatly say if your girlfriend is being an ass you should drop her. Women aren't worth the trouble till they're at least in thier 20s but I'd say late 20s if not 30s. By then they seem to be human enough :D

I really don't get this thread, you're all over the emotional map. What is really going on here?. Do you want to give up pool and you're looking for us to convince you otherwise?. These kind of decisions are yours to make, so make one. Is this thread just a ploy for attention or a cry for help?. Sorry, but I really don't understand which direction you're coming from here.

Wow, in my experience I see less as I get older ... maybe I'm getting too old :o ... naa :p

And to our young friend, I agree completely with those who have commented on taking time off. Do not quit in your mind, simply prioritize things and if pool takes a back seat to life for a while, so be it. Pool will always be here when you are more able to dedicate time and money to play.

All the best,

Dave

yea i want alot of strangers attention because i cant live without it.....

i understand the advise on taking time off but for some reason everything i do in my life so far i never stick with ...i played tuba for 5 years got really good then quit, then i tryed guitar. got bored then quit , tried piano got bored and quit so i started lockpicking got good enought then for some reason got bored and quit so i turned to pool and i absolutly LOVE it its amazing and im afraid if i take some time off i may never come back to it its like i have some serious ADD problems lol has anyone else gone through this?

Well part of the problem is that you can't worry about how quickly other people learn, everyone progresses at their own rate. Secondly I don't know how much time you practiced, but you should be playing about 30 min. to an hour every day about five times a week. I always told my students I would rather you play 30 min a day five times a week than 2 1/2 hours once a week.

Guitar can be very hard to learn or very easy depending on what you want out of it. Granted some people will never be capable of playing Yngwie Malmsteen solos or Eruption by Vanhalen, due to a lack of co-ordination. But anybody can learn to play simple pop songs, and it shouldn't take much more than a year of dedicated practice.

I don't know the dynamics of your relationship so I won't advise you one way or the other. However if she doesn't realize that you have to do somethings for yourself then there is a problem.

As far as most women being whatevers, I don't think it is fair to generalize. You can find just as many guys who are no different, it's not a personality trait that is exclusive to one gender or the other. I know plenty of women (far more than guys) who have been dumped on quite a bit. And they are sweet gorgeous ladies as well.

Yea well at my age the girls just wanna play with you....but yes there are many men that way to teh only reason i didnt say that is cuz im a good guy

and i didnt mean to say ALL of them are *****es just Some of them.....the ones i know

:) lol
