And I thought Pool Hall Junkies was bad

I think you all are crazy. The switch handed thing at the end of the movie.....ooooohhhhh man the climax of the whole thing. It kinda brings a tear to my eye that I SAT THROUGH THAT WHOLE &^%$ING MOVIE. Ok I feel better

I did not like color of money, Paul Newman is my favorite actor and i think he did an awesome job in that movie. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio did a super job as well in that movie, the one that ruins it is larger then life Tom Cruise. The way he is destroys the movie for me, i personally dont think he is a good actor and he is him self no matter which movie he is in. I liked Pool Hall Junkies more, even if the script was a bit weak and some of the acting was somewhat fussy. Walken pulled the film together, but i think that movie had more to it that a lot of people give it credit for. I hope some one makes a really good movie about pool, one that maybe uses one of the old road players as inspiration. But Shooting Gallery was not the best movie i have seen, not by a loooooooooooooooooong..........

Amen to Elizabeth Mastrantinio, she did a superb job in the COM--I have seen this exact woman snap a pro player (now deceased) into shape in the 80's.
As for Shooting Gallery it sucked. It was dark and dirty and is typical of what people still think about poolrooms today. I'm really glad that it did not go to the theaters because it would reinforce people's aniquated attitudes about poolrooms and poolplayers in general. It was easily the worst pool movie I had ever seen and I think I have seen them all except for stick men. Usually I turn off a bad movie but, I couldn't since it was a pool movie.
I was thoroughly disgusted.

Shooting Gallery Suuuuuuuuuucked!

Just saw this flick for the first time on cable last night. What a waste of time. It sucks right from the beginning, but because it's a pool movie with a strong cast, you expect it to get better and it doesn't. To spare anyone the pain, every character in the movie gets shot, except of course, the main character and the hottie who ride off in the sunset together literally. (puke)

If you don't like the first few minutes of the movie, don't worry, it won't get any better.

Thumbs Down

If you really want to see a stinker..... check out Kisses and Caroms...... my wife got it for me from netflix the other day...... WOW.... no budget, bad acting, poor script, and a character who is supposed to be a pro who doesnt even know how to hold a cue....
If you watch it from a late nite cinemax/showtime softcore perspective..... it may fit the bill, but as a pool movie in any way shape or form.... dont bother.

Another one

There is a new pool movie out there> "Billiard Festival". You thought that PHJ was bad> this one is in Hebrew with English subtitles / about a couple of characters who try to hustle a money guy ...in Snooker. Two snooker scenes in the entire movie and then it is not much of a movie. But, It is, a pool movie !!!
There is also a really bad one out there I haven't seen for a few years > Briggitte Nielsen is a pool hustler in Italy. Can't find it now.

I have to admit I orginally thought you guys were being a bit picky about shooting gallery. But I saw it a few months ago, and OH MY GOD It was so bad. Forgeting about the pool aspect, the script and the story line was bad. And who the hell would go to a pool hall owned by a guy had an army of pool hustlers? Who would have an army of pool hustlers? Who would even join an army of pool hustlers? It's just too stupid to even think about. My brain hurts now from the stupidity of it all.

I watched the special features, especially the part about the pool. I laughed when the techinical advisor said that he wanted to make sure that the characters were believable as good pool players.
