Anniversary Rebuild -

Hello -
I'm in the process of rebuilding/refreshing a Brunswick Anniversary table I recently picked up. My big hurdle currently is the formica on the rails. All along the feather stripping it's dented. Some one really did a job on it.

What are your opinions on how to handle this? I really want a nice clean look and I haven’t found much info on options for beat up formica rails.

I’ve talked to Mark Gregory and I’m settling into the idea of having him do the bumper rebuild work, but I hate to have that done if the top of the rails look crappy.

Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.
Steve

I’m starting to reassemble my Anniversary table now. It’s been a long process but I did have some rail work done by Mark Gregory and worked a deal with the local wood shop on the legs, aprons, and rail surfaces. I think it’s going to look and play outstanding. I’ll post some pictures shortly.

My question today is… Does anyone know a good Table Mechanic in Milwaukee? I have two tables to work on, one is a Gold Crown 1 and the other is this Anniversary table. I’ll need these both leveled, squared up, and cloth put on. I enjoy doing some of this work myself but I play with some pretty competitive guys and need these two tables PERFECT.

Let me know.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,
I am also working on an Anniversary and was wondering what stain you used on the aprons and pedestals to match your formica rails? Looking forward to the pictures. Steve

If you find anyone in Milwaukee area to do a nice felt job would you be kind enough to pass the info on? I could not find anyone to do my bed felt that I trusted would do a good job so I had to do it myself. It turned out better than the local tables I have seen that have been recovered but could be nicer. The rails I sent out for re calibration, cushions, and felt.

Hey Steve,
I ended up stripping the Formica off the rails (because they were so beat up) and redoing them in Walnut. I also did the legs and aprons in Walnut so they all match. Sorry I don't have a stain for you since I pretty much started from scratch.

Thanks
Steve - Milwaukee

We'll do Fastone... I've noticed the same poor work on the local tables.

Thanks

WOW!
No nut plates!
Great work.

Steve,
The rails look fantastic. I've read that the Diamond style hold downs work and play much better than the old figure 8 plates. I thought I had all my aluminum polished and now after looking at your pictures I realized I still need to do the counters! You must be thrilled with the results. Steve

Table looks like its going to be beautiful!! Dd you do the Formica yourself?

I started to chip away at the Formica with a lot of heat applied and wasn't getting very far. I found a local wood worker that ended up sanding it off, then put on the Walnut veneer. I think they turned out looking very good.

Hey there Steve,
Two Steves and two Anniversaries... this is getting confusing!
Your veneered rails look terrific. I'm interested, in that I have an Anniversary with Formica rails that have seen better days.
Mark Gregory rebuilt them to his high standards and they're playing great.... His comment about the state of my Formica was...."Well, it wasn't the money table"!.
I was too anxious to get the table set up to take the time that you did.
Nice going. Seeing your rails, I'm regretful.
Dave

I wish I could take credit for them, but this is Mark Gregory's work. The subrails were in pretty bad shape and I had him redo them and replace the nut plates.

I bet this jewel plays awesome now.

All of the parts look great and I can't wait to see some finished pictures of it together. I would like to know some contact info of the wood working shop you used if you think they would be interested in doing another table. I am also curious about your castings. Are they chromed or polished that shiny and how much did it run you if i'm not being to nosey? Keep up the good work.

Thanks for Now,

Dean

Steve,

I stripped off my original aprons and restained them with a 50/50 mix of Minwax red mahogany 225 and sedona red 222. I spent half a day trying different combinations on the back side of my aprons. I put about 5 coats of minwax semi-gloss on it. I then painted the stripes on trying to use a paint roller I purchased from Ken Hash with a latex paint. The roller worked ok but it didnt cover the entire groove. It looked great looking at it straight on but didnt give it crisp lines looking down on it. I ened up taping all the lines off with a quality painters tape and using a cheap throwaway foam brush to get all of the areas the roller wouldn't get. That worked the best for me(don't waste your money on the roller). Once I peeled off the tape I aws left with nice stripes. I just took my fingernail down the grooves and easily scratched off sloppy areas.

Steve Dickey,
If you use a 50/50 mix of minwax red mahogany(225) and sedona red(222) and use minwax clear semi- gloss it's almost dead nuts to the formica color. I'll post some pics of mine when the AZ forum police let me
