When I quit the APA, I was a SL7 in 8 ball and an SL8 in 9 ball. One of the most common things I found with people complaining was that they couldn't be honest about their own performance. I saw it all the time.
Just about every week, we would see a player (typically the 4's and 5's) play a bad match against an inferior opponent, then whine about the other player's rating. When you hang 8 balls and miss easy safes that allow your opponent to get out, you deserve to lose. A lot of players still have trouble with that concept.
I had to face a solid 5 that had been on the watch list by the league op. I was playing him 5-3 in 8 ball. During the match, I ran consistently to the 7 or 8 and was constantly getting myself in trouble. I hung the 8ball twice and the ball before the 8 at least twice. He won the match 3-3 by getting out from those open tables. Afterward, the LO gave me the "I told you so" about the other player. I told him, that the other player didn't do anything any other 5 couldn't do. This was on 7' barboxes with huge pockets. If I coninuously leave open tables for him, he should get out. That doesn't mean he should be a 6, just that I didn't take advantage of my opportunities.
If more people had an understanding of that, the leagues would be more enjoyable for all.
