Another APA rant

When I quit the APA, I was a SL7 in 8 ball and an SL8 in 9 ball. One of the most common things I found with people complaining was that they couldn't be honest about their own performance. I saw it all the time.

Just about every week, we would see a player (typically the 4's and 5's) play a bad match against an inferior opponent, then whine about the other player's rating. When you hang 8 balls and miss easy safes that allow your opponent to get out, you deserve to lose. A lot of players still have trouble with that concept.

I had to face a solid 5 that had been on the watch list by the league op. I was playing him 5-3 in 8 ball. During the match, I ran consistently to the 7 or 8 and was constantly getting myself in trouble. I hung the 8ball twice and the ball before the 8 at least twice. He won the match 3-3 by getting out from those open tables. Afterward, the LO gave me the "I told you so" about the other player. I told him, that the other player didn't do anything any other 5 couldn't do. This was on 7' barboxes with huge pockets. If I coninuously leave open tables for him, he should get out. That doesn't mean he should be a 6, just that I didn't take advantage of my opportunities.

If more people had an understanding of that, the leagues would be more enjoyable for all.

Here are my suggestions for changes in the APA.
1) add a skill level. 8 ball top level should be 8 not 7
2) change from 23 points to 25
3) A player may not play anyone more than 1 skill away from his own level. A 5 can play like a 4 if he is playing a 3 or weak 4, but a 4 has to play at his level against another 4 or he would lose. This would, I believe make it harder to sandbag it would not eliminate it.

until they fix the "23" rule AKA; "the root of all evil" there will be bagging and APA will be a picnic league.

Having been around pool all my life, I know that there are a certain percentage of players (probably 10-15%) who have NEVER lost a match.
They either won, or they got screwed...

different league opperators have different rules. i played in a distant apa 9 ball i was an 8 going into that league. during that session i beat 2-8"s,2-7's and a 6 in consec. weeks all under 10 balls. after alot of fighting and talking they wouldnt move me up to a 9 bc there was only 1 (9) in our league and the op thought he was alot better then the rest of the players.

i also played in another league where i was the op team mate and i was a 7 in every other apa but on her team i was a 5. go figure. its a set up anyway you look at it
