Another crushing defeat; but damn, seeing a pro "in the zone" is cool.

I had another unbelieveable straight pool match yesterday with one of the pro's in our league. Match to 100; pro starts at negative 150 (needs 250 balls to win); I start at 5 (need 95 to win).

Out of the gate, I start pretty well and take a huge lead at 80 to minus 100. I then get to 91 and the pro is at minus 89. Despite needing only 9 balls to win; I NEVER MADE ANOTHER BALL; the pro ran out in 3 innings (super-tight Diamond table); missing only one ball (leaving me a super-tough long shot off the rail which I missed), and making 189. I had no other shots; no chances to choke like a dog; and saw some superior pool (the best I've ever seen except for poolshark52's run in the AZB room this year).

Watching a pro get in the zone, especially one who is extremely knowledgeable in 14.1, is a tremendous experience - but damn, what an ego-crushing defeat. If I wasn't a fan, I would quit the game immediately. There seems to be no chance I can ever play like that; but I guess it was fun to watch.......maybe I should stop whining, quit this day job, practice some more; and stomp the pro next time.:)

What, no vids?

JP,
Damnit, if there was video I would probably just slit my throat if I had to watch it again (or else watch it over and over trying to learn something....I'm a bit conflicted).

No revealing who it was?

JP,
Most of the regulars here already know - it is a top pro who lurks here. Out of courtesy, I don't mention the names (would be WAY TOO EMBARASSING for them when I finally trounce them).

As you will find out; any pro posting here is welcomed by the majority of members, but serves as a lightning rod for the few, ill-mannered trolls. It is a rare pro that escapes unreasonable criticism here. I am still attempting to convince this pro to continue to support activities in the AZB room at DCC; so it's best left to the imagination (hell, I often wonder if I'm just making this stuff up myself, since it is my favorite professional player; seems like a dream come true for me.....maybe the doctors need to increase my meds, I could just be imagining all of this).

Being lucky enough to be RIGHT THERE on top of it, watching it come down, is .... imo... MUCH more important than winning the match. Screw the outcome! .... and WOW to the experience. Which is what I hear you saying. Seeing pool played that well is a life changing experince.

as much as it sucks to lose

it can be fun to watch!

About 2-3 seasons ago I was playing Tony R and I played a safety on him. The safety being just skimming a ball near the foot spot, sending the cue to the far short rail and leaving no shot. As luck would have it, although I pretty much executed the shot perfectly, the ball I skimmed took a right turn because it hit the edge of the little sticker on the foot spot, so instead of leaving no shot it just left a table length medium-hard shot, which Tony executed perfectly and proceded to run 153 and out on me from! It's exciting to watch stuff like that unfold, even from the chair.

Understandable my freind, I am jealous of the opportunity to play with such competition. The lesson has to be valuable.
