Another Earl thread. 14.1.

CJ, by no means are you obligated to disclose any terms...Ignore your critics- nothing annoys them more! Much respect and best of luck! :)

I second the motion!! Ignore the critics and keep promoting pool.. Anyone that asks someone about their personal business has got to go anyway. It's not only rude but it's inappropriate....I for one appreciate you sharing your pool knowledge on these forums. You might not remember me, Mark Kendall, the guitar player from Great White. When I came into your room you were not only nice but played me for at least 3 hours short sets of 9 ball for $20. Not many pros would hassle that..You then paid the time. I have never forgotten that..Thanks for your posts here...

I wouldn't say we are being critical, only curious. @MarkGW, I've always been a fan, even through the rough times.

Right On

My high run right now is 134, and I really haven't played it that much. I did run 105 last week practicing, and to run 200+ I'd have to take it seriously for 3 weeks and get some input from top players like yourself or Mike Sigel.

Yes, Danny, and I, too think that Straight Pool is a beautiful form of 'Pocket Billiards'.....it's more like classical music and the great straight pool players are directing an orchestra when they get in "the Zone" (just using a music analogy for a change) ;)

Earl was definitely a "pool playing artist" that week at CJ's.....it was an amazing performance, and I'm glad to have been a part of it along with all the other PCA players like yourself, Danny.

Enjoy your Holiday Season, Bud.

CJ

I like the music analogy, in my fist instructional 14.1 dvd (280) I was actually listening to Chopin nocturne. The firepower you had was truly impressive sight to behold back in the early ninety's, and I was thankful to have been apart of the Mosconi Cup. I am sure you can dig in and hit center pocket if and when you want, thank you for all your help in my journey to becoming a Champion - I am working on it.

Thanks poolmouse:-). If you're referring to the fire in RI there are a lot of things people don't realize, because of the press. That wasn't even Great White. Our singer was on a solo tour and was struggling with ticket sales. He asked me if I would sit in for a few dates to help him draw a bigger gate. When I came out they were using a cold spark effect at the beginning of the show. Great White never used any pyro in our live shows. The press like CNN and others said it was Great White playing after the accident happened, and just ran with it.. In reality it was GW's singers solo band with me filling in....Thanks for the kind words:-). Regardless of the facts and details it was a horrible thing to witness. I am friends with all of the surviving victims in Rhode Island to this day...

It's a relief to hear the facts

You're certainly welcome, Mark, it's been awhile - glad you're still playing pool, Bud.

I thought about you right away when I heard about the tragedy in R.I., but had no way to reach out to you. It's amazing how recklessly the media does their jobs with real people and reputations on the line - I was one that heard the story on CNN and believed it was "the truth," and obviously it wasn't. It's a relief to hear the facts about the incident.

I remember playing at CJ's and I'm glad you have fond memories of our match......let me know when you're in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and I'll give you a rematch.

Play Well, and Happy Holidays, and Best of Luck in 2014 - it's going to be a great year.

i committed to CJ @ AUG to buy it, period. it's pool history that's finally being released/disclosed.

from a marketing standpoint, it might be prudent to simply disclose that Earl has a stake in it - for the Earl fans?

regardless, we want to see it. and we want to own it.

Wow, you have 1111 posts, that's a great sign. :D

Yes, this is pool history we're talking about, not anything else. We appreciate your attitude, PINK LADY, you will learn many unusual things in this documentary (about Earl, Pro Pool, Competing and Human Nature). I was there and didn't "real eyes" what really happened.....so were many others and I can safely say that Earl is the one that remembers it most clearly (this threw us off, we thought since he was playing this wouldn't be the case).....and even he was off on a few things in retrospect.

If I was interested in capitalizing off this event I wouldn't have waited 17 years to do it after investing $130,000 of my own capital. This is obvious to most people, and to others the world is "all about money".

The fact of the matter is Pro Pool will continue to do poorly until someone gets involved that doesn't have "profit" motivating them. Pool WILL BE ON TV, although it will be improbable to not "break even" or lose money at first......and it may be months and months before the first dollar is made.

My strategy with TV was to only break even!!! This is realistically how many top notch TV Shows start out.....and many businesses as well. Sometimes in business it takes 3 years of HARD WORK to turn your first noticeable profit. I've been through this on 3 separate occasions and it's just "the cost of doing business"......we must produce sweat equity motivated by passion for the Game - for pool to succeed again (imho) this must be the attitude of whomever participates. The Angel Song

i play it every time i shoot. (if i can find it on their jukebox) it gets everyone's attention....

but i can't play it on the piano - because the sheet music doesn't exist!

It's pretty cool to see Mark (guitar player for Great White) reading this pool forum. It just goes to show that our Game is appreciated by many people - young, old, male, female, tall, short, musical, not musical, talented, and not so talented. ;)

Pool is a Game for Everyone to enjoy in one way, shape or form.....I'm looking forward to see it emerge back into the spotlight of America's pastimes. :D

PS: I would like to learn 'The Angel Song' too, but sold my baby grand piano when we moved to Ft. Worth.....the pool table had priority.

it's scientifically proven to take 3 weeks

Well Rain-guy, there you go with your "3 week" thingy again ?..

Yes, it's scientifically proven to take 3 weeks to change or develop a behavior.

Hey mark! Just wanted to say, I live 15 minutes from station! I was a fan, I am a fan, and I will always be a fan! Great White is an awesome band! Didn't know you were a player! That's awesome to hear! Take care!!!

Merry Christmas to you Danny....I do believe Classical Music would be ideal to play Straight Pool 14.1 to......that game is certainly an "art form". Believe it or not I used to play Classical Piano competitions in high school.....that's something that's not very "public," but you may find interesting.....and yes, I did play Chopin, as a matter of fact I got a "1" Rating playing one of his Arrangements at a school competition.

You played great in the Mosconi Cup and those were some exciting times for sure....glad I could be any help in your development as a player, you have always been extremely talented......too bad pool phased so far down in the last 14 years. We intend on turning that around in some way, shape or form.....there's a HUGE opportunity for succe$$.

Play Well

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Yes, Earl was compensated immediately when he participated.....my goal is to get him something bigger....much, much, bigger.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. ;) I need to get ahold of Earl and get him a copy asap.....we've been so busy I haven't had a chance to get ahold of Lisa to get his address.

Happy New Year to everyone in North Carolina....I miss the days of playing in Hickory, Greensboro and I won a score at "THE BIG BAD WOLF" is anyone remembers that place. :D North Carolina was always one of the best "pool states" in the USA....probably still is, we're still going to make it over there some day. Aloha

SJM..Not just for the sake of arguing...But are you forgetting his opponent was SVB ?...This was the most unexpected one pocket final EVER at DCC !...There were about two dozen 'much better' one pocket player's in the field that year..They either cancelled each other out, or Earl and SVB drew around them !..Not to make light of Earl's amazing talent at 9/10 ball, but calling him an 'all-around' player, IMHO is a bit of a stretch !

Both have improved their one pocket game considerably since that time, Shane more than Earl.. But both are still considerable underdogs to the top echelon 1P player's. (Busty, Alex, Frost, even Gentile, etc.)...I would lay considerable odds Earl will never see another DCC finals again !..The odds of another Earl/SVB final, are off the charts ! (and yes, I WILL book either one !) ;)

SJD

Can you please post the two dozen players that can beat Shane Van Boening in one pocket even, I'm interested, and I am sure he would be....Thanks...

I'll shorten the answer for you..

If you're too scared to shoot at your hole, but can make a good decision otherwise, that qualifies you as "better" to some people.

Right, but I am just curious to see SJDs list of two dozen players that can beat SVB even in one pocket. He said there were 2 dozen better 1 hole players in the tournament at DCC the year Earl played SVB in the finals, but their draws were unlucky and they knocked each other out... I was just wondering who those players were?

i play Straight.
i play Moonlight Sonata.
i play both, when stress dictates.
but i have NEVER, EVER, considered combining the two....interesting....not that i could find it on the jukebox.

(maybe that's why i play The Angel Song?)

Runs

Dallas ran 100 on 9 different tables at state n Madison in one try. We all could of. If i played as much as he did. could of would of but didnt. Earl wouldnt ever of won Johnson City. because he wasnt a alaround player like Wimpy .Greatest what bad sport .Give me the Hopkins, Siegels,Rempes,Varner West.real allarond players.

So that's the secret to running 400+ balls playing straight pool...classical music - who would have ever guessed?

The Moonlight Sonata - it's considered the greatest piano piece ever written. Beethoven could "gin it".....Fur Elise is pretty strong too.
