Gabica joins tough Bali tilt
ANTONIO "GA-GA" Gabica will compete in the tough Bali International Open on Sept. 19-21 in Bali, Indonesia as he warms up for his up-coming campaign in the United States.
A gold medal winner in last year’s Southeast Asian Games, Gabica is one of the most under-rated players in the country. He’s the same guy who blanked Dennis Orcollo in the finals of the inaugural Philippine 9-Ball Open two years ago.
Orcollo, of course, is now considered as one of the heavyweights in the game today.
"Pagkakataon lang ang kailangan natin," said the soft-spoken cue artist from Cebu. "Tinalo ko na ‘yung mga magagaling. Kailangan lang makasali sa malalaking tournaments."
Gabica will make his debut in the land of milk and honey in the 2006 US Open on Sept. 25-Oct.1 in Chessapeake, Virginia.
"Talagang pinaghandaan ko talaga itong Bali Open. I hope na maging maganda ang resulta ng kampanya ko dito para may momentum pagsabak ko sa US."
Francisco "Django" Bustamante won the Bali Open last year.
Interestingly, the Filipinos dominated the last US Open with Alex Pagulayan and Jose "Amang" Parica finishing 1-2.
Gabica’s manager Perry Mariano believes his ward will be an instant hit in the US pool circuit.
"He (Gabica) has the talent," Mariano said. "Kung nakaya ni Dennis (Orcollo) na magpapanalo sa US, kaya rin ni Ga-Ga." —Noli CRUZ
