i just heard last nite BK Billiards ib sharonville went under
sorry to hear that
steve & brenda really wanted it to work
both quit thier "jobs" to open thier dream
i thought that the no smoking law would hurt them, but it hasn't even taken effect in cincinnati yet
i was just there last week & the place was packed
he just bought 5 9ft diamonds a few months ago
that started attracting other players besides the local kids that have hung out there for several years
snookers, michaels, hilltop billiards & sneaky petes are the only ones left now
(that i know of) and bocca billiards. forgot them . sorry dave :rolleyes:

Sad.
I think the main reason pool halls are going out is the kids these days are no longer interested in pool. Hence, no new crowds in the hall.

I just went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They had some nice 9 foot Diamond tables as well as 8 footers. Sad to hear that there is one less place to play in the Cincinnati area.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was in the pool room a couple of weeks ago and a teenager took the table next to mine and started banging balls around. It was clear that he was a novice and was mostly trying to duplicate tricks shots from TV. He did this for about 20 minutes and gave up.

He then sat down in front of one of those video games that has a suite of games you can choose from. Guess what he was playing? Some kind of virtual pool! He was still sitting there playing when I left 2 hours later.

Dont feel so bad, I just heard tonight that one of the Places in my town, which happends to have all Diamonds is in some serious $$$$ probs. Which makes me laugh because they have a full bar and grill. And its generally busy on friday and sat, and league nites tues/thurs.

besides that its basically a graveyard. Because they have no tournaments and if they do have a tournament its small stuff like a 5$ 8ball tournament or a Open 50$ tourney, but since they are a bar, they can not have a calcutta hence hardly anyone shows up.

Could you shed some light on why they are closing. It seems ill advised to put in new diamonds during a dead time for pool if you are having money problems. As you and another poster stated it seems business was good. Do they sell alcohol and food. How many tables? I am curious as it seems in the dead of winter when most places are packed that they would close or not sell. Has to be something else going on.

i have no idea what happened.
they didn't sell alcohol.
they had some food, snack type stuff. microvable junk. no kitchen.
they had 5 9ft. diamonds, 3 9ft. olhausens, 6 or 7 8 ft olhousens and maybe 6 bar boxes.
i haven't talked to anyone that would know the whole scoop
a friend yesterday told me he was there the nite they closed
the owner came around to everyone and said they were closing for personal reasons
who knows?

That's too bad. I'd say the poolroom business has got to be one of the toughest nuts to crack.
 
Pool in Cincinnati is really drying up. Between the lottery, the boats and Texas Hold Em there is no money left for entertainment in this area. Two Saturdays ago I went to Sneaky Petes, then over to Sharks n Shooters and then to BK's. This was from 8:30 in the evening until 11:00 on a Sat. night a week or so before Christmas. None of the rooms were even half full of players. When I managed Beechmont Billiards from 91 - 93, from Thanksgiving eve until the middle of Feb. we had a waiting list 7 nights a week from 8:00pm until 3:00am. On Fri and Sat. we sent people to other pool rooms once we had a waiting list for 20 tables. We would still have a list at 4:00 in the morning and have the place still half full at 6:00. My how things have changed.

Sorry to hear that. As part of a family owned pool room it saddens me to hear this. In St. Louis pool is down a lot also. Maybe it is a midwest trend. A lot of blue collar manufacturing jobs in both St. Louis and in Cincy. Maybe just a result of those jobs leaving our economy. Hopefully this downward trend will end quickly.
 
I was down at Snookers back in OCT for the first time in about 10 years. The owner said they need to keep reinventing their business based on what the customers want. I remember when all they had were regulation tables. Now they have bar tables up front and a live band stage. Dart room in the back corner and just the back room has regulation tables. Still great people and nice atmosphere, but they too admit the business is tough in the Cinci area. So I played a couple hours, had some drinks, bought one of the old Koala bear shirts and talked about the history of the place and halls in Ohio in general.
