Bussin with the boys is a pro (NFL) football based podcast.

What it has that pool doesn't is the community vibe.

They are pro football players but they just talk about life.

With pool the promotion always felt more about the money.

Listening to this podcast its just sounds like guys you know being real. pool never had that.

Its a lot easier to just talk about life when you have a ton of money!!!!

I'm not sure you can compare NFL players to pool players, the former are highly paid athletes, the latter (bar a very select few) probably struggle to pay the rent, so its natural money will be their primary concern.

after COVID i think pool room owners should get media attention first before pool players share their transformation stories or personal struggles.

highly paid athletes still struggle with divorce, depression alcoholism and drugs,

young people just need guidance and they turn to what is available.

sports provides role models and standards

football coaching has its troublemakers, there is so much bad blood on camera by the highest paid included

pool coaching has a higher standard and that is a key selling point

football imploded the great coaches never materialized

pool has a lot to offer in terms of mental coaching and performance in highly competitive situations where calm thinking matters a lot more than fast twitch responses.

Most pro football players are wealthy college graduates. They only play football for about half the year, so they have loads of time and opportunity to experience a wide variety of things other than football.

Most who compete at pool for a living are neither wealthy nor college graduates, and scraping up enough money to pay their bills is an ongoing challenge. They must compete year round to make ends meet, and sometimes even that isn't enough, so they gamble and/or teach when they are not competing. Money isn't the main issue for most of them, but instead the only issue.

There's really not much common ground here.

I gave a poor introduction.
There was a time when football wasn't as popular as it is today.

Football has developed much more than pool over the decades.

I am raising the discussion on what is a virtual community. COVID lockdown is real.

When pool restarts it just feels like there should be a live news journalism for billiards. The NYC fight about reopening to me is what I made this thread for. any details worth sharing? fighting the government should be public news.

Exactly what "life" outside of pool; would you like pool players to discuss for others to hear? I would be curious to know. I suspect most of their lives are mostly just about pool related topics.. Not much for most of them to discuss about homes, families, hobbies, politics, business opportunities, interesting travels, etc. etc.

Guess you're not talking about American players, as few of them ever travel to Asia to compete. It's equally true that very few of them ever travel to Europe to compete. That said, to meet people of dozens of different nationalities, religions and cultures, one need only visit New York City. It's also clear that you are completely out of touch with the realities of tournament travel. You don't get to meet many people or see anything in the countries you visit. The only people you get to meet from other countries are fellow competitors, and you can meet practically all of them if you go to Derby City and the US Open.

I don't see pool adopting as its slogan "become a pro pool player and see the world" anytime soon.

I bet Dr Dave is relieved you've moved on. Do you ever stick with something for more than 48 hours and finish these "things".

Sent from the future.
Lol.
He needs to preface every post with. 'off the top of my head...', doesn't he?

wrestling is a sport

its more entertainment than wrestling with all the interviews and non match camera work.

other sports are moving to monetizing their athletes the same way the rock went from WWE star to movie star.

billiards has different fans i think mostly 40 and up. mike massey is the first pool pro that comes to mind and that was generations ago.

as an industry pool has tried everything.
now with covid id rather say ehat is on my mind.

hopefully without antagonizing anyone

Spending time incarcerated. Living from hand to mouth. Their full time job (not pool). Their favorite pawn shop.

And some of them chose to stay single while others started families.

Im in the single camp. Rich people and celebrities aren't that interesting.

I am middle class immigrant family. I dont know famous people in real life. I know more convicts and felons.

I like hearing about the ones that turned around. Most of my experiences growing up did not involve it starting with a silver spoon.

The guys that never thought they would become what they are today.

Hearing about a famous athletes child become a famous athlete is not something that interests me. I like American real life stories

that is why I like being in a real pool hall around real people, not wealthy people playing poor on tv.

A person with a brain would be smart to study how NASCAR went from Bubba's to Billion Dollar Inductry. Honestly Pool is in all like leve hood the low pay sport for people who call themselves pro players.

If you like hitting a White Ball on Green surface, learn to play Golf well, the rewards are much better then pool for those that master Golf. But the draw back is PGA has strict dress code. Cash dress like someone living in cardboard box on street under bridge. But then in all likehood sponsors will play for you cloths, shoes, clubs, bag, etc.

Not happen in Pool anytime soon.

I agree. The nitty gritty people you meet in pool rooms are for real. I’ve represented a lot of them which doesn’t make me think less about them. A lot are veterans from the school of hard knocks. There are thousands of Damon Runyon characters hanging around pool halls. There are 8 million stories in the naked city.

We should ask ourselves why !! ???

Perhaps because football is "fun" to watch !! ?!? for both newbies and to aficionados.

What if we could make Pool "fun to watch" to both newbies and to aficionados ?!?! Would that do anything positibe for pool in the long run ??
