Any advice on using an oil hand rub finish?

I was considering using a MinMax Wood Sheen:

A danish oil finish and soft luster top coat in 1-step. Penetrates wood and highlights grain. Dries in 2 hours. 2 coats are recommended. Prepare softwoods with Minwax Wood Conditioner. 12 oz. size.

Just wondering if anyone tried using this oil finish on rosewood?

Duc, I have used similar finishes. What I do is apply the finish with 0000 steel wool. I usually thin the first couple coats about 10 to 15%. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then wipe it off. Let it dry completely. Continue to reapply, wipe off and dry until you have the finish you desire. This method usually takes a number of applications but gives a great finish. I first used it on gun stocks and have used it on snooker cues a number of times.

hightower shaft finish

i just made a desert ironwood cue, very hard 150 year old wood, all i did was to use chris hightower's shaft finish, apply a few coats, let dry. 1200 to 2000 sandpaper. repeat until you like what you see. i dont know if this will work on softer woods but the desert ironwood looks great.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for the advice, I will give it a try and post some pics of my first few cues once they are done.

I have used shaft sealer from Chris as an undercoat and then used super glue and it work great...althought the finish for the super glue is really clear (show some of my flaws)...almost like auto finish.
