Any billiards companies interested in working with us? - Dartmouth Billiards Student Organization

How about contacting Nick Varner if I remember correctly he's a past collegiate champion and a darn nice fella to boot . He maybe willing to play a exhibition match for a reasonable fee to help draw attention to your efforts .

For example, we have tried to gain wider engagement of the club through promoting some club banners and placing rules for each of the primary games played (8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, and so on...). Yet, we were not even allowed to put this stuff on there because the space is supposed to be completely open and putting any information about our club would be seen as making the space less open to other people. We definitely want more people to discover the space and enjoy their time there, and it would much easier to maintain those newcomers if they knew there was an actual club/program where people can learn, socialize, and play the game.

WTF kind of moronic thinking is this? No rules for games near pool tables that use those games because it's "less open to others"? Idiots.

We don't know the whole story, but.... It sounds like someone who has little authority and doesn't understand much made a bad decision. And of course in this time of doubling down, there is little chance of a change.

However, how about if the billiard club prints rules without the club's name and leaves them in the area? Then the members, who are likely there frequently, could point out to the new players that the club provided the rules and they should feel free to take a copy.

What about, if just to begin, start a league team, or if you have enough interest, a couple of league teams? The tough stuff such as scoring, rules, and scheduling would already be done. You could even advertise as the Dartmouth Competition Billiards Team or some such. Play a few sessions in a local APA or BCA league and see if you can grow your club. Use your on- campus facilities for practice nights, challenge matches outside the league schedule against other teams, exhibitions, heck, maybe even schedule an instructor who will give you group rates for a day of instruction.

College kids love socializing, pool, and cold beer, which leagues offer in spades. If, after a couple of sessions, you can't fill a team or two, your billiards club probably ain't going anywhere.

Any time you approach teachers/parents/kids/school system as one.... they have a predetermined feeling about this game/Period.
It's this prejudice/attitude/opinion/feeling/reality when you're in their ''world'' as to why you'll get responses that are not ''in cue'' with ours.

Teachers protect.

Thank you guys for your replies. I will take the information and try to apply it to the club. Let me know if you have any other ideas or would be interested in working with us.

you need to make your changes within. not expect anyone to financially support something that doesnt even have the support of its own organization.

thats the place to start.

See if you can get any support from Dartmouth to send someone to the Under-22 US Juniors Championship in July.
