Any Colleges near you with Pool Rooms ?

University of Arizona here in Tucson has one. They held the national junior championships there a couple years back. I'll have to get back to you about the # of tables. Nice room and well mantained equipment last I was there, but they throw you out for gambling unless you are a UofA student.

i participated in the nationals there at tuscon and i must say that the room was very well mantained and i was surprised at the room. one of the best ive been at but i dont know if they changed the room around for nationals? either way it was a nice room. its been 2 years, but i would guess that there was 13 tables? not sure tho

Montana state has about a dozen 9 ft Goldcrowns with fast cloth. The rails are a little dead and the pockets are big but they play pretty good. Sometimes it's still hard to make myself get out of there. I'm 32 and have to remind myself why I didn't finish college the first time.

Does your local, city, state or private college have a Pool Room ?

If so how many tables do they have, what kind and sizes are they?

What the colleges name and what city & state is it in?

Thanks,

Mj

Both USC and UCLA have pool tables. Both schools are in Los Angeles.

I think

Mike,
I think Georgia Tech has a billiards club and a nice
room just for them .I know they did about ten years
ago ,I fixed the big screen tv for them .

UVA had (as of 2003) a game room with 6 or so 9' GCs, ancient simonis, dead rails. Can't vouch for any changes that might have occurred between then and now. There are several places in surrounding Charlottesville with tables, but no real action spot.

ok, so apparently I don't know the difference between 8 and 9 feet. I have been playing on 9' all year thinking it was 8' and could find bigger tables. UIC has 16 9' tables, I was a little mixed up. On the upside, my long shots must be straighter than I thought

Mike, does this mean you might be putting together some tournaments for college students?

UGA has 10 AMF 9fts in the Student Tate Center.....atleast they did about a year ago when I recovered them.

Southpaw

i'm at kansas state university in manhattan, ks.

the union has its recreation room with 13 9' tables and 1 10' snooker table. the tables are pretty shitty cause the lady that runs the union doesn't care about pool and doesn't take care of the tables - she cares only about bowling because she is in the Kansas Bowling Hall of Fame for some obsurd amount of 300 games. 3 of the tables being gandy's, 2 being monarchs, and the rest being anniversary tables. 2 of the brunswick anniversary tables have broken/cracked/shattered slate though. the snooker table is an anniversary as well.
no action here - i used to play here all the time... cheap table time ($3.50/hr with student id, $4.50/hr without) but i got to the point that i couldn't stand the huge pockets and sloppy table roll any longer.

the real pool room in town is Fast Eddy's Billiards (no relation to the chain of Fast Eddy's). It is privately own and been around for 25 years. They are actually in the process of changing some tables in/out ... i just helped them move in new bar box's last night ... the new line up will feature 11 9' Brunswick Gold Crown 3's, 8 8' Brunswick Gold Crown 3's, and 6 new to them (only about 3-6 months old) 7' Valley Black Cat bar tables from Side Pockets in Olathe. Rates vary... M-F open to 7pm is $5 play all afternoon, hourly rate before 6pm is 3$/hr for 1 person, $6/hr for 2 people, an extra $1/hr for each additional person at the table (even if they are not playing). After 6pm Sunday - Thursday its $4/hr for 1 person, $8/hr for 2 people, extra $1/hr for each additional person at the table, Friday/Saturday after 6pm its $8/hr for up to two people (no discount for only being one person on table), with $1/hr extra added for each additional person. and drink prices aren't cheap ... pop is $2.50 + 1.25/ refill. a special on a well is usually $3 or 4 ... consequently i usually get a pop or water.

There is a little action at Fast Eddy's but not much ... it use to be an action room but now its just a bangers room. the owner would rather havea bunch of drunk college kids in there spending a ton on boose than real shooters in there who she is only going to make table time on because they drink water or maybe a pop.

i played in the ACUI regional at MIZZOU in February and I remember they had i think 8 8' tables ... brunswick gold crowns if i remember right .... cheap rates too from waht i remember.

University of Houston in Houston, TX has 2 pool rooms on campus. 13 9ft brunswicks, 1 carom table, and 1 10ft snooker table in one of them. And 11 9ft brunswicks in the other "smaller" one.

Those are really 9 foots... i was told oversized 8's (if there is a such thing)

Sounds like almsot every Pac-10 school has them. I went to the University fo Washington and here was the breakdown of campus tables:

HUB (Husky Union Building) - 13 9' Brunswick Centennial/Anniversary tables, one 10' Anniversary snooker table, and 1 10' Anniversary Billiard table. Billiard table had dead rails so noone played and the snooker table had one end slate piece slightly raised so it jumped balls and noone played.

South Campus Center - Had two 9' Brunswick drop pocket tables

Terry Hall - Had two 9' Brunswick Centennial tables

McMahon Hall - had one 9' Brunswick drop pocket table.

I played in the regional tourneys at Boise State Univeristy, U of Montana, Oregon State, U of Oregon, Washington State U. Each college had at elast 10 tables.

Sadly, UCLA now has only two of their Diamond tables left (other than the old worn-out tables in the dorms), which are in an open game room area, with no real table lighting. They are renovating one level of the student union building, and the signs say there will be pool tables, but I suspect they might be coin-op bar tables.

Yes they are 9 footers. I actually work there in the games room where the pool tables are.

University of Montana at Missoula has 15 Gold Crown IV tables in good condition.
One table had a Simonis-like cloth, the others were all nappy stuff.

(or, at least that was the situation in the summer of 2006, when I was there)

I graduated from UC Davis. We had 10 Olhausen Professionals with Simonis.
I've been to:
SF State-6 Gold Crowns
Fresno State-14 9' similar to Gandys
San Diego State-8 crappy bar tables
UC Berkeley-got rid of pool tables
Cal State Sacramento -10-12 9 footers
Cal State Long Beach- 12-14 Brunswicks
Cal State LA- 8 Bruswicks or Gandys
Cal State Fullerton- 12 9footers

I'm pretty sure those are GC I tables.

The good old days, at SDSU. (South Dakota)

It has been a few years (16) since I left there, but what a great time for pool. Small campus then, around 7,000 students, had eight 9 ft Brunswicks and a snooker table. The year after I left, the area was remodeled and only 5 of the tables remained.

Other schools I have played in for ACUI tournaments include NDSU-Fargo, Ames, IA and Mankato State. I don't remember the table count, but do remember them as being nice. The other two years were played in Brookings, SD and at Shooters in Burnsville when Minnesota State hosted.

I've played at U of M before...they have some GCs and anniversarys covered in old nappy wool clothe...but they're in ok shape...

Northwestern University in Evanston, IL has a game room in its student union with a dozen GC3s covered in Simonis 860. Hardly anybody plays there, so the tables stay in good shape.
