Hi,
Just curious if there are any cues that has a similar hit to a southwest? Due to the area I live in, there is no one that I know that has a southwest, and I am interested to know how the hit is like. I am planning to purchase one but do not want to fork out the money if it is a cue that I do not like the hit. Thanks for all the help.

Richard Harris Bluegrass, would be head of that list- and nobody doesn't like the hit of a Southwest....if you like it to hit solid anyway!

I make cue with southwest style tapers. 3/8 11 is my pin. I make many cues with this taper but the customer have me change it more then 50% of the time. Funny right?

I've seen people with a real Southwest cue and had them try out a

$70 Kaiser Southwest style cue and they couldn't tell the difference

in how they hit.:p

Just buy it!

Chances are you will like it, there is a reason for comparing various cues to a Southwest

If for some reason it doesn't suit you, sell it

Pretty risk free & I doubt you will sell it.

Good luck

Comparing

I used to have an $1,100 Shurtz cue, and I compared it to a $3,000 Southwest (fancy one), and I could not hardly tell the difference at all.
There was a slight balance difference as the Shurtz was just slightly more forward balanced.

Many threads come up about this. Answers are usually Ed Young, David Kersenbrock, Bluegrass, and Rick Howard.

I think Southwests are worth every dollar Laurie sells them for, and not a penny more. Its only a 10 year wait or you can pay the inflated price from some cue flipper.

I would throw Wes Hunter's cues into the mix as I have more than once heard his cues referrerd to as the poor man's Southwest. I have one and it is a stiff hitter but I've never had a chance to hit with a Southwest so can't say for sure.
