Anywhere I could read up on the basic rules? I've never seen it played before.
You can read a description of play by searching "golf (billiards) on Wikipedia. Some basics:
1- need to play on snooker table (game becomes too easy for good players on regulation table)
2- holes are numbered 1 thru 6 (usually starting on lower right pocket; #2 is lower left pocket;
and continue clockwise with #6 being right side pocket)
4- game starts with first shooter's ball is placed on spot and shooter (from the "D") banks toward #1 hole, If he makes it, his ball is re-spotted and now shoots at #2 hole from wherever the cue ball comes to rest. If he misses the #1 hole, each player does the same (all starting from the "D").
5- once all players have started, then simply take your turn from wherever cue ball stops, If player scratches, then next player shoots from "D".
6- the first player to make all 6 holes in order wins.
Other basics:
7- the game can be played for friendly stakes ($3 game/ .50 foul) or more serious money ($50/$10). Whatever.
9- typical fouls: scratch, hitting another player's ball first, making ball in wrong hole, knocking another player's ball in hole (the other player is credited if they are shooting at made hole), knocking ball off table, not hitting any rail.
10- most rooms have "extra penalty" for player who allows their "shooter" to win (an incentive to play good defense).
Basic strategy:
Very similar to 1p. As each player is making their way around the table, you are trying to make your hole while not allowing a shot for the next shooter to whichever hole they are shooting. If one player gets in the lead, others may team up to knock his ball away (as long as they hit their ball first).
These are some basics. Each house has their own rules. Lots of variations. Players need to be somewhat equal in ability/skill. 1 weak shooter can mess up the game for all the rest.
