Any golfers here?

Funny how golf clubs are like pool cues. To each their own with all our individual preferences. I have found that the Rifle shafts give me a little lower, more boring ball flight. Have had trouble in the past with hitting my irons too high and sometimes ballooning them into the wind.

I've played most all the irons at times....Mizuno, Ping, Titleist, Cleveland, Palmer, etc.....and for me, I've found what I've been looking for in these Callaway Big Bertha irons. Forgiving, consistent, and a "weighty" feel (can't stand low swing weight irons). Also in my bag....Callaway 460 tour driver (9*), Adams Redline RPM tour 3-wood (14.5*), Callaway X tour wedges (50,54,58), and a Scotty Cameron newport 2.5 putter.

Incidently, putted with the same Ping Zing putter for close to the last 20 years and recently made a change to the Cameron......glad I did. :D

Yeah, they'll pry that Scott Cameron Newport out of my cold, dead hands too.

Can you guys recommend a decent, easy to use driver? I have an older Mizuno but it's hard to control and the new clubheads look like they are way bigger. When I was playing a lot, my average drives were 260 with a 9degree Mizuno driver. My natural shot is a fade,.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I just got done loading a couple of auctions for MP-57s into my sniper.

I hate golf.

Kevin

Wow, they're up to MP-57 already? They were only at MP-29 when I quit playing. All the good (non-sponsored) golfers were using them too.

Locate a good PCS Clubmaker/Certified Rifle Center & take in some demo days.

Try out everything you can get your hands on - find what is easy to hit for you.

Chris, to me, this Callaway X460 is just real easy to hit. Big, but fairly traditional looking at the address position. Easy club to hit consistent and hard to hook/slice (severe). With a slight fade, you may be dead straight with this club as it's face is made about a degree closed. It's easier to hit than the other Callaway drivers I have tried. You can find them new still for around $150-$199. Nice shaft options, as well.

Also, I would recommnend anything out in the last couple years that's TaylorMade (x580, R5, R7) or Ping (G2, G5, Rapture, etc)....all imo very easy clubs to hit, very forgiving.

Never been much of a fan of Mizuno drivers, nor Titlist or Cleveland. For me, none of these seem to give me the "jump off the face" feel I want. Titlist makes great woods, but you need a great swing and game to go along with it imho....

You want forgiveness; go with a Cleveland HiBore XL. Looks like a HUGE spoon (concave top, but I tried a buddy's....and it goes). I am currently hitting a Cobra HS9 driver with an insanely pricy shaft, but it is EASILY the longest driver I have ever hit. Very forgiving too, but easier to work than the HiBore XL mentioned above. The Cleveland just wants to go straight (and most everyone likes straight :) ). I've been to bunches of demo days, big retail stores with launch monitors, and fitters with monitors too,...most of the newer heads are ridiculously easy to hit (NIKE, Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made, etc. etc. etc.); it comes down to the shaft, nad what you like in feel, kick, stiffness, etc. A good middle of the road shaft (that fits a lot of people) is the Aldila NV (green in color)....find a big headed driver with one in a local shop and take it to the range. The only reason I say this is that a lot of the stock factory shafts can be kinda suspect (say stiff flex, and play regular flex, etc.) I'll stop rambling, hit a few, and post on here what you thought (which you liked best). I can probably find you one for below EBay prices.....:D

Chris

Get yourself a Taylor R7 460 Superquad with a stock stiff shaft and you'll be so happy. Don't get sucked into spending the extra $$ for Tour Preferred, which has an open clubface, leave that to Sergio.

Too late, baby. This one has a square face and an expensive custom shaft. It's the right set up for me. I like a square face. I just don't know how I'll do looking at that loaf of bread on the end of my driver - can't wait:

It's 460CC and that's all you need. At first you'll feel like a vaudeville clown with some oversize prop, but that fades away pretty quick as your mishits go where your good hits used to and your good hits set personal bests.

I just put a Callaway X driver in the bag and I love it.

You'll like the 460cc. I decided on the TaylorMade Burner with the stiff RE*AX 50g shaft and love it. The PGA Super Store lets you demo 3 clubs at a time for up to 48hrs and I took everything they had to the range & course.

Good recommendations above; technoology has come a long way. I have had TM R7 (now used by Dad), and went to a Ping g5 last year. A little lead tape on the heel (for my swing) and I was good to go.

**Important** Do not buy a TaylorMade R7 SuperQuad off eBay. Great majority of them are counterfeit. TaylorMade has info on its web site, and eBay posters have created listings of what to look for and what to do (like get a serial number of the driver before you buy, and call TaylorMade to verify it is genuine). I did not do so, and ended up getting a counterfeit model. Fortunately, I got my money back, but it was a real pain. Clubhead broke before I used it (adjustable screw broke off in the head).

Also, I used an Odyssey White Hot for a while, then a Cameron Newport, and now a Cameron RedX 2 model. I have made some bombs with the RedX 2. Completely different style of putter (center shafted, mallet style), but man I three putt so much less now it is not even funny. Maybe once per 3 rounds, instead of once per round. (Handicap Index 6.7)

Centershafted Scotty user here too. I have the Phantom Futura (more mallet looking than the cattle brander regular Futura) in the bag....and tons of other styles waiting in the wings in case she goes south ;) . Cool to see other golfers on here....

I just wanted to let you guys know that the Callaway X 460 Tour with the custom shaft I bought as "used" on E-Bay is brand spankin' new - shipped direct from Callaway, all stickers, no marks on the clubhead, face, or grip.

Here was the auction:

Amazing!

Chris

with a new big dog in the bag....I'd ask for strokes from ya :D Shot a nice little -2 70 on Sat. (outta no where). Thanks to the Scotty mentioned above (musta made 4 or 5 putts from 20+ ft. - couple were for par too - LOL). Never tried the ProLaunch - just figured I'd hit it too high (like I do all mid-kick shafts)....good to hear you got it brand spanking new though - ENJOY!!!!!

Here is a stink for you.
Chris paid me right away for the irons (good deal too).
I worked too late on the day he bought them and the next day I had my son so shipping was out of the question. I had to work a bit late the following day and missed again!!! I set out on Sat morning to ship them. I went to a UPS/USPS box store with clubs in hand. They wrapped them up and boxed them and came to me with options on what to do as far as shipping prices from FL to CA. The absolute cheapest that I could get them there was 38.00 and then with the boxing and wrap my total came to a BIG FAT FREAKING 68.00$ TO SHIP A SET OF CLUBS. AND THE SOONEST THEY COULD GET THERE FOR THAT PRICE IS THE 22nd. That is like 11 days. Unacceptable!! But no choice because the f?N price. My next option was over 100$. I contacted TATE and he was ok with it, (THANK GOD)!
Just thought I would rant a bit.

If I come through this back operation ok, and I can play again I will take 4 or 5 if you shoot (-2 70). :p

Just let me get re-adjusted to my old :D Ping Eye 2's. and get some strength back and you got a match.
