Does anybody know any good pool halls in Los Angeles? I am taking about money games, 5 10 maybe 20 dollars a game or set? You know just to make the game more interesting.

quite possibly

I moved from the south bay area 7 years ago but then you could start on Prarie Ave. or Hawthorne Blvd. at Artesia and work your way north from bar to bar and your money should be all gone by the time you get to Hollywood Park.

Go to Hard Times with your fancy custom case. You'll have to beat 'em off you with your break stick.

Hollywood Billiards is the nicest pool hall I've ever been to. Tight GCIIs.
Hardtimes is where the action's at. Very nice tables too.

You can probably find some one-pocket action at House of Billiards in Santa Monica.

you meat 1 person from la you've met them all.

I used to live there. I know what you mean.

I've been to hard times in la puenta area and also hollywood billiards. I've met Tang Hoa there who is a good friend of my cousin, Randy.

Hollywood billiards had to be the most low down and dirty pool hall I've ever been to in my life.

You must be thinking of the old Hollywood Billiards, located at Hollywood Blvd. and Western (if I remember right). The current Hollywood Billiards at Hollywood Blvd. and Hwy 101 is a players dream. The tables have tight pockets, they're well maintained and there's plenty of room around each one. Plus the food and service is excellent. The only problem is, there aren't many serious players hanging out there.

By your statements, you surely have not been to the area in many years!

The Hard Times you are talking about (LaHabra, Ca) is no more, and Hollywood Billiards is much different that you describe!

Sadly in LA thats less than the pool time in some rooms. The pool scene sucks in LA. I have some great friends out there in the pool rooms, and I will also say they are among my best friends in any pool rooms anywhere. So there are good people in LA-but not alot of them, Pool is dead there.

One pocket seems to be alive and well in LA... just come on down to Hard Times, House of Billiards, Sportsman's Family Billiards or the Golden Cue.

You're right. I had been there last in 92. I remember playing those tournaments at Hard Times. I got second in a monthly tournament by a stroke of luck. I caught a super gear as a low 'C' player. I beat some big, fat hawaiian looking dude, and lost to some skinny eastern indian lookin dude with his own chalker...... I remember it all very vividly.....

The Hollywood Billiards of old, was nothing but wall to wall action. Drug addicts, hustlers, hookers, pimps, gangsters........ u name it, it was there......... Table time was freakin expensive there too, like 20-30 an hour IIRC........ during the day, it is only $6/hr here at Magoo's today!

I had never been to the Hard Times in Bellflower.......

Wonder what action is like now......... I would love to go back and shove the nine ball up some of those dudes a$$es...... If they're still around.....I was just a dumb kid with no idea back then....... there was one a$$hole in particular I remember........

LA Pool

As I said earlier, I left LA a while ago, but a good bet is Mr. Lucky's Middleground in Torrance. Checkout their website. I was strictly a bar box player back then. Problem is you had to cruise a lot to find any money.
Also you had to be careful when gambling because it's illegal and you were always suspicious of undercover. If you shoot bar boxes check out The Golden Goose On Aviation near the airport. It's a nude bar but well run. Pretty good buffet, 3 barboxes usually in bad shape but the boys will bet. Look for a skinny black dude , if he's still alive, called Chicken George. He'll be glad to take your money. We hung together for awhile.

I worked at this pool room in 1991. That may have been my most favorite job yet - well almost. I miss the allure, but not the bullets whizzing by, of that pool room. I made some great friends there...

That building got red tagged in an earthquake. Hollywood Billiards was out of business for quite sometime, until Jeff (owner) got the old Ferrari dealership on Hollywood Blvd (at the 101 offramp/onramp) and poured millions into it. It is today a very beautiful pool room indeed. Much different than the old days...
