Does any one have any info on the accident that happened in the crosswalk from Circus Circus and The Riviera? I heard it was a pool player from Texas.:( :( :(

That stuff that happens on the Strip never makes it to the media, nor to the suicides, domestic battles, rape's, robberies, people OD on blow, meth-the heart attacks that go with that, nothing ever, makes it to the news unless it happens out side like this then its one story acknologizing what happened. It would tarnish the image of the Strip if what really happens there was in the news.Since the joints run the city they clean it up, had he died in his room from a suicide it never would have been known.

I dated a girl years ago who was a EMT in a ambulance, i lived where I could see Flamingo Bl. and there was a steady stream of ambulances all night every night, I asked her what's up with all the ambulances, she told me that with 80,000 rooms in that small of an area-alot of bad things can happen when you consider that a husband finds out his wife maxed out the credit cards, notice you cant open the windows, you could 25 years ago, but too many people were jumping out of them, there have been about 5 or 6 attempt to jump off the Stratosphere. The cover up all the bad shit that happens with a nice clean term "Jackpot Heart Attacks". There is more bad shit going on behind all those sparkley lights than you can imagine, 200,000 pissed off broke, drunk , hi on what ever drug, people all on a 3 mile street. Bad stuff hppens constantly, she told me that there is rarely a heartack from a Jackpot, What happens here does stay here. Dirty shit is bad for business, sposal abuse is the #1 problem.

Ever see that movie "Very Bad Things" when the guy accidently killed the stripper on the robe hook on the wall, and they took her out of the casino-the Riv of all places in different suit cases to bury her in the desert. Thats whats really going on. I dont mind it we dont have state income tax-the casinos pay it for us.

And I kid you not!

Hope the guy is ok. if he died you can call the cornors office and they will tell you, I had a employee kill himself and they confirmed it, sometimes with just part of the name.

Sounds like the Las Vegas version of Jack Webb's opening speech in Dragnet.:) ... Good read.

I got there right after it happened! It was around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning Thursday night I believe (could have been Wednesday, time sure runs together out there. *lol*) Anyways, me and a buddy of mine had just walked up to cross over to Circus Circus and we saw all the cops and the ambulance and stuff, so I started talking to a lady who was also there and apparently saw the whole thing. She said the guy just walked right out into the middle of traffic and then got hit by a little white car (looked like a kia or something)...knocked him about 30 feet and there was a big pool of blood on the street. Not sure of anything else though like if the guy survived or what....

I sat next to a guy at Slots of Fun at the blackjack table who said the guy who got hit was a team mate of his friend he had come to watch play in the tourney.

He said his friend and the guy that got hit were standing on the medium between the lanes talking when the guy slapped his friend on the shoulder (friendly jesture) and just stepped off the curb right in front of the car. Never saw it coming.

He said the guy broke both legs, some ribs and bad case of gravel rash as the car drug him about 50 feet. He is still alive and expected to recover.

He said the guy was from El Paso or Alamogordo. No name though.

My cousin used to live in Vegas. He had it made. Cheap house, was renting two rooms , worked in a casino, was loan sharking and selling crystal.
Then he got hooked on Keno. Lost the house and went to jail.
It's a sad town.
I go to Vegas once in a while but I don't gamble.
It's actually a pretty sad place if you look at the whole city from up high at night. Nothing but concrete and facade.
The Riviera was once owned by Pia Zadora's husband. The two had a bitter divorce.

I hope the man is ok.

There's an old saying, "If you like to gamble, don't live in Vegas. You will end up broke". I know some very successful businessmen who moved there (even built businesses there), and got into Blackjack and Dice. I don't have to tell you what happened to them.

I have a lot of respect for Fatboy, who has lived in Vegas a long time and made beaucoup bucks. He won't bet a nickel in a slot machine, or play a hand of BJ. He uses his cash for other things, like cues and cars. He WILL bet on a pool game though! Don't think he won't. :)

Information

I was not in LV but the man in question is from Alamogordo NM
His name is Ed Schuh, and he is going to live. But he is busted up pretty bad.
I know his family are in Vegas now and taking it one day at a time. He has multiple broken bones including both legs top and bottom. Our hopes and prayers are with him and his family at this time.

Side note. We are from a small town, And jaywalking is not something we really think about here, so if that was the case, please cut the man a little slack he is suffering enough.

Tim

Sorry to hear about this poor sod.

I have to wonder though, considering it's Vegas and the time of night and all... was alcohol involved, as far as this fellow goes?

Was it Doug Young?

Heh, this sounds like another Photoshop opportunity... pasting Doug's face onto varying disaster photographs...

If he ever shows his face again where I happen to be, I'll try and snap a pic... *laugh*

My prayers go out to him. This is not funny one bit, and I cannot see any humor in making jokes about such a tragic accident. I hope the man survives and doesn't suffer permanent damage. How old is he?

Jam, He is 54 years old and he works in law enforcment. He is a very well respected gentleman in our local pool crowd. Also never known him to drink or do drugs and I've known him 20+ years.

Please keep us posted on his recovery every now and then, Tim.

He is the same age as me. God bless him, and I hope he regains his health back. This is just awful!

yeah Rikk, His mistress Lived in a buiding I have an apt in in Beverly Hills, her name was Lisa, I met him once in the elevator there, My girlfriend told me the story after we got out of the elevator.

We were sitting with Ed in the front of Slots of Fun having a great time. He got up from our table and went back inside (I thought) to use the restroom. Unfortunately he never returned.

We did see the emergency vehicles but didn't really think anything about it. Unfortunately I didn't find out about Ed until the next morning when we were getting ready to leave Vegas.

We did visit Ed in the hospital but he was so sedated so didn't know we were there. As I understand he did break both legs, a collarbone, fractured ribs, bruised lungs, and most worrisome head trauma.

The accident was reported by the local Channel 13 news later that day. There is some internet video showing the car.

While I understand this was probably Ed's fault, I did note on the video that he was hit by the passenger side of the vehicle. The windshield is broken on the right.

Now in Ed's defence, this tells me that that the vehicle could have been speeding a little as well. If the accident happened on the passenger side this tells me the driver should have seen him unless he was speeding. Note: this happened in the crosswalk so this isn't really a case of jaywalking.

I am not a lawyer but I do believe that drivers are still responsible for pedestrians in a crosswalk. Drivers do have a responsibility as soon as a pedestrian steps off the curb. Yes a pedestrian does need to be observant because 150 lbs versus 2000 lbs is a no brainer. I am not laying blame to anyone and I am sure the accident could have been avoided if the driver was more observant. Anytime I see a pedestrian at the curb I am definitely more vigilant because the person could step out unexpectedly. I am sure the investigation will be more conclusive.

Ultimately this was an accident with tragic results. Our prayers are with Ed and his family for a speedy recovery. The reports are good that he will ultimately recover but it will take a long time.

catch a cab?

I went down to the Riviera cab loading area about 5am thursday morning to go to the airport. There were a group of people down there waiting for a cab to go to Circus Circus  . The next cabbie told them to take the crosswalk and they explained about someone getting hit. I thought they were kidding cause some of them were obviously up all night ;) . Cabbie refused to take them.

That happens alot in Vegas...When I lived in Vegas I would grab a beer from a casino and walk out to an overhead cross walk and just lean on the rail and wait for shit to happen...lolz. I seen some crazy things go on.
