OOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFF !!!!!!!!

The pins on any Dufferin cues I've seen look nothing like that.

Is there a poolhall or cue repair place in your area ? Someone like that might be your best bet.

yeah, the pin is in the shaft not the butt. the cue is 10+ years old i don't know what kind of pins dufferins have these days. although i did see some for sale online that looked similar but i don't know how to measure correctly in order to tell which one might fit.

SF is very short on cue experts. i hear there is a place in the south bay but i need to do some more research...

that's a different set up than I've seen on any dufferin. it's like the pin they have for thier newer cues, but on the shaft instead of the butt.

The older ones always had the joint on the shaft but a different pin. the ones with that type of pin had it in the butt.

Now might be a good time to find a reputable cue maker in your area and have the butt reworked. Not a big deal, they'll just remove the insert, and add a pin (size and type of your choice)...they can then make you a shaft and you'll have a more traditional set-up. It'll provide you a bit more freedom should you want to go the LD shaft route.

Personally, I think these full splice cues play really well with either a Radial pin or a 3/8x11 SW-type pin. It will provide for a nice stiff hit, much like a one piece barstick.

You may wish to post this in the Ask the Cue Makers section...they may be able to point you in the right direction for a replacement shaft, or at least tell you what other options you may have. These old Canadian made Dufferins are getting harder to find, and it's clear you have taken care of it. It's a great candidate for a 'new life', IMHO.

cheers! thanks for the info/suggestions. i was using this cue as a break stick, hence the cracked shaft. i have a habit of breaking break sticks[pun intended!]. if i were to replace the pin and insert i'd like something that leans toward durability. any suggestions in that matter?

Well it might be time for a new cue:(. I am no expert but IMHO it will be hard to find a replacement shaft for that cue, You could have one made but that would cost $100 or more. I think the original company sold out to a Chinese manufacturer several years ago. I have seen three or four different joint types on Dufferin cues but have never seen a male pin like that one in the shaft before. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.

If you really like the cue that much, you can have a shaft made for it using joint parts from your broken shaft. I would expect that will cost about $100 to $125. It won't play the same.

I would just get another cue if I were you.

You can also look for another Dufferin 2 piece or a good straight one piece Dufferin or Brunswick house cue for $20 - $30 and have a cue maker add a joint screw for $25 to $50 depending on what you want. The dufferin one piece house cues from the 1990's and earlier are best. They are very solid and have a conical taper, so they are stiffer than the usual cue you see now. I have a wall full of old Dufferin house cues and I agree they would make very good break cues.

haha... yes, buying a new cue would be cheaper and easier! i guess i'm just trying to retain the cue for it's sentimental value. as mentioned, i've been shooting with it for over ten years. would be nice if it was as simple as buying a new shaft, but sounds like it might be more work than it's worth to get this thing back in action.

FgBradleys is the distributor of Dufferins in Canada, they have 3 stores....Pickering Town Center, Sherway Gardens and Fairview Mall, they are your best bet.

riiiight. well, i'm not going to visit the mall in canada but i was looking at this website before. the question is how can i tell if any of these will fit? what's the proper way to take measurements?

It's a standard 14 thread fitting.
I would suggest having a pin put in the butt...low cost..
now there will be lots of shafts that will fit.
And if you have the joint collar extended you have an even
greater selection.
I think it's worth it.Those true-splice butts hit jam up.

I am also looking for a replacement shaft for my dufferin. I cracked my shaft out of frustration when I was losing a match I felt as though I should'nt be losing. I inadvertantly threw my stick into the wall tip first and the shaft split in three different parts down by the joint. I have asked several people if I can have a shaft made for the my stick and everyone is talking about $175. I'm like man I only paid $65 for the whole stick. Im like wtf. These are some solid hitting sticks imo. Hopefully some one has one for sale or something. Also, where is this place online that sells dufferin sneaky petes? Any info is well appreciated.

Peace

P.S. THE SP I HAVE IS STRAIGHT WOOD TO WOOD

cue repair in San Francisco

My name is Robin Snyder, and I do cue repair and I live in San Francisco. A new shaft for these old Dufferins is not a problem. You can have the joint screw put in the shaft as it is now, or have it moved to the butt, which is very easy. This way any shaft with a flat-faced 5/16-14 thread will fit. I play pool at Family Billiards and am often there during the day, or just call (415)317-0329.

update: robin is working on my cue as we speak. he's simply replacing the insert with a 5/16 x 18 pin. i happen to have two extra meucci shafts which i will use on the dufferin butt. it's a cheap and easy fix and will get my cue back in action!

If you have any future problems this AZ member 'dbCustomCues' probably can help you. He had tons of old dufferin shafts, butts etc in his shop.
