Any interest in a TAR 28 replay?

The content is TAR's so I do not think they would appreciate people selling copies of the stream. Maybe I am missing something here but there business is tuff enough enough without you throwing a curveball at it.

Agreed. Did you read post #33 though?

Thanks Justin

I play 2 leagues and travel to many mid-west tournies over the last 10 years.
That made watching how pro players deal with tough tables in 8Ball a real pleasure.
Learned a lot. Will be watching Thursday morning for sure.

TAR -- any comments on the possibility of selling digital downloads?

What about trying it once or twice and seeing how it goes?

Well, obviously I'm not suggesting that someone steal the stream and then sell it. And yeah, I think what you're missing is that if they could get the stream available as a download they could then generate MORE revenue off an already completed event. Yeah, the cynical way to look at it would be a "curveball"...but with happy returns too. Running these events must be a logistical nightmare for sure, but nobody is doing it for free. Everyone's trying to make a buck while providing entertainment...even the contestants. As such, it only stands to reason that if you can continue to generate a profitable revenue stream off an already produced event then you should.

Sort of like once a movie leaves the theaters it is usually quick to go to DVD so they can then collect the DVD sales.

By using a downloadable format you would forgo all the headaches that seem to accompany marketing a DVD (hardware and shipping). You just find a spot to host a downloadable version and TAR would most likely only have to pay per download...and not have to order up a bunch of inventory. A lot of web sites do this.

Just a thought. Its a shame to think that if you missed and the immediately following stream then you may never get to see it. Moreover, a lack of downloadable content makes it almost certain that someone will pirate it and sell it. Might as well be TAR getting the money for it.

I still prefer being able to buy the DVD. But in lieu of that, this would be my next best wish. You could theoretically continue to sell the event indefinitely...so it would continue to make money.

Just my .02

I have talked about this many times. The issue is cost for storage, bandwidth, payment processing, security and developing the user interface. I'm not going to go into all the details of what I have found when looking around or the threads I have started here asking for suggestions but suffice it to say its not as easy as you think.

I hate fooling with the web. I know very little about it. Whenever I talk to a "web guy" they tell me everything but what I actually need to know. It raises my blood pressure just thinking about it. I'm not going to do the "cafepress" style file download where I have to give up 50% of the revenue to some service. At some point I will find someone to work with who I can trust and will actually do something instead of talk about all the problems and we will have a full VOD capability.

Fair answer. "Web guys" talk in a language that most people don't understand. And they always say how easy it is...which it probably would be if you were a "web guy." But the disconnect I have found when dealing with web designers and coders is that they unfortunately do not possess an adequate amount of ability when it comes to explaining things to a non-web person. Also, most white knights who come from nowhere with promises of fixing all our company's web woes are generally opportunists looking to make a buck. Which I understand, it is business...but it doen't help to generate trust with the client..which in the end I need in order to hire someone.

The owner of where I work washed his hands of the entire internet presence and has delegated it all away to other employees. He says he frankly doesn't even want to learn any of it, but he does admit that it is a necessary tool in the success of our company.

As such, I sympathize with you. lol I understand your lament.

My council to my owner with regards of the fully function third party options when it came to handing over 50% of revenue would have been, "50% of some revenue is better than retaining control of zero web-based revenue." But he's old school. It makes our jobs more difficult, but we manage.

I the end, I hope someday to be able to view that 8 ball match again. Not as a stream, but at my leisure and on my time frame. That was a classic and best of the match IMO.

Congrats on a job well done. Commentary was also exceptional during the entire process. Very professional, informative, and entertaining.
