Any McDermott Cue Players?

Well....I gave that fancy McDermott a shot. I didn't like the hit at all. Someone will - but I guess I just like what I like. Back to my Schon. It's like night and day difference. Trading the fancy McDermott and another cool JOSS to another buddy for a Schon R8 Dice Cue. Can't wait to get that baby in my hands.
Great point, Fred! Yes, Evan and I used to talk weekly and he told me McDermott and Schon stories. Brilliant guy.

I've got a C-18 McDermott cue with 3 shafts that I've played with for many year's or until I needed to be a dad to my kids , then when I started playing pool again I was working out of town when a water pipe broke and soaked the cue and all 3 shafts didn't fair very well or did the linen wrap .
It was a great hitting cue and my favorite to play with on 4 1/2' x 9' tables , I used another cue on the bar tables .
I'll admit I liked the hit of the C -18 better than the Schon cue I tried .

I never cared for the hit of the steel joint cues. Had a couple Schons and a Black but just didn't care for the way they played. I did have a import McD with a steel joint that I thought played awesome.
One day in the pool hall we were shooting spot shots and seeing how well we could make the shot and draw uptable. Some young players and myself were testing about 8 cues. I was able to get the most draw but to my surprise it was with a thin handled steel jointed cue. Those are 2 things I don't care for. The consensus was my McD cue played as good and more consistent then any of them.
I have had a couple custom cues made -to the older C series specs. They played good but not better then my old McD.

There's about 80 McDermott's for sale on Facebook but you got to go to Michigan to pick them up.

New (?) 2014 Cue of the Year for sale for pickup in Midland, Michigan for $1999 --- same price it sold for in 2014 (cues of the year sell for between $3000 and $5000 today).

McDermott makes great cues, but I'm not a fan of their 3/8-16 speed joint, that thing is just too heavy and totally deadens the feel of the hit.
McDermott and Joss get very little exposure in today's market, which is a shame, they are some of the OG brands.

Funny thing when I first started playing 30 plus years ago at this point. My first brand name cue was a McD . Everyone was Gaga over meucci then but I preferred the stiff hit. Most likely why I graduated to joss and shon cue’s after that. But I always preferred the way meucci looked lol I just thought most McDermotts were ugly and it always seemed when I found one I liked they picked the worst wrap that clashed completely with the rest of the cue on it lol But always made great cue’s . I wish I had some pics or still had the first one I owned . Now I think most I see our classic designs that you don’t see anymore and I appreciate them as such.
The only exception I can say about them is DON’T buy the lucky brand they offer. I bought my son one who was just starting to play and they are terrible. Walmart quality at best. You get what you pay for but I think it’s shameful mcd even puts their name on that.

I special ordered mine in 1986
I wanted a Richard Black or a JW but couldn’t afford it at the time so I ordered from
Mc Dermott a D19 with a s/s joint and 2 shafts, 1 normal and the other extended just for bigger tables
trying to make the cue look like the higher dollar ones
Also got a custom D19 without the dice but with MOP inlays and s/s joint
LOVE THESE CUES
I have had some high JW Mottey’s Nitti and lambros cues
But there has has always been a sweet spot for me and these 2 cues
(Most likely because I had a lot of fun back in the day with these cues
Anyone else have D cues with stainless joints?

I think the only one I have is the one I posted earlier in this thread, an E-K1, which came standard with a stainless 5/16x14 piloted joint. But I could have more. I just started getting into my cues in storage today after more than 5 years and just found a C-6 I forgot I had, the ferrule shrunk, it needs a new one, other than that it is perfect.
We sure don't see many D or C series, or earlier, with stainless joints. AFAIK the first McDermotts had piloted stainless joints with the 5/16x14 pin. The first one made is lost to history, but the second one is still around. I posted pics of it on the first page of this thread. I had not seen it for several years and spotted it in the background picture of an eBay ad a few days ago. So I guess that eBay seller is the one that bought it. Here is is in a cropped pic from the ad:
