Any Mosconi team without...

Even if we send our level best stars, Europe will send a mix of their A squad and JV team, and still wipe the floor with us. Currently, there isn't a team we could send that could beat England's 5 best, or Germany's 5 best (heck, even Europe's junior champions would be even money) let alone if Europe actually sent its top 5 talent for once.

Now, now.

Last year, Europe sent its best player by WPA ranking (Niels Feijen), its best player by 2014 Eurotour Ranking (Mark Gray), the third place finisher in 2014 US Open 9-ball (NIck Ekonomopoulos), and the 2014 World Cup of Pool champions Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes. Five in form players, all with titles in the second half of 2014, is what they sent and it showed.

The meritocracy for Mosconi participation on Team Europe ensures that Europe's team is strong every year, and that the JV guys don't make the team.

Europe sends players that have earned their spots. One day, the US may do the same. We haven't for two straight years. Nobody questions the strength of Europe's top players and with guys like Shaw, Hohmann, Souquet, Vandenberg, Ouschan, Sniegocki and Skowerski just as capable as the others, Team Europe will be strong for years to come.

PS Appleton, Boyes, Peach, Gray, Melling would surely be Team England. I reckon they'd be slight underdogs to a Team USA of SVB, Dechaine, Morris, Hall, and either Bergman or Woodward.

We'd need to have an American tour and high participation in WPA events to do anything equivalent.

I don't particularly care for Mike D. But clearly he is the second best (and sometimes is THE best) America has to offer. The Mosconi cup is no longer about who will win (that's a forgone conclusion), but rather should be a showcase of America's top talent against whoever Europe feels like scrounging up.

What would you say the odds are for America winning this year?

Vs euro possible team of

Toasty
Karl Boyes
Chris Melling
Neil
Appleton

Mika + Nick the greek

I dont like U.S chances...

definitely agree that mike has to be on the squad. he's just too good at rotation pool to leave him home. not to mention, his fire is good for a team atmosphere.
don't forget how well scott frost has played rotation games this year too...gotta think he's gonna get the nod before sky does (solely based on his track record on the big table since most of sky's wins have come on the 7' table).

Lol. You may be the last/only member here that doesn't know it don't gamble. In fact, I've been pretty vocal that that is the reason why pool will never attract sponsors.

Im not trying to gamble with you. Im just curious what odds you consider to be a forgone conclusion.

So what are the odds?

His fire is good for the team ? His fire is why he sat home last yr , and his recent temper tantrum at the 14.1 shows he still hasn't learned to control his emotions

It really depends only on who the Euro's send. If they send their A team, team USA can't win. Zero chance (outside of the entire team suffering from legitimate food poisoning). I don't think there could be a line.

It's a good thing you dont gamble. Your line making is horrible.

Dechaine is a joke. Please put SVB, dechaine, hall, Bergman, and either archer or Morris or hatch for a vet on the team.

his mosconi record isn't exactly stellar. perhaps tournaments are more his style.

his fire...not his attitude. two different things. haha.
i will admit that mike has been known to have some tantrum issues, however, there are a LOT of pool players that have done the same thing. he sat home last year due to attitude issues. i also heard something about a player or two not wanting to play with him. that seems to be over and done with, though, since he and shane are playing in a team event soon. i just don't think you can make a team of the best americans without him on it.
