Any Reason Why the Did Away with the Magic Rack?

I've only used the MR a couple of times. The one that stays on the table and the one that comes off.I thought It worked great and I did not see one problem with them. There has to be something that will fix all these racking problems. The racking problems have always been my biggest pet peeve In all the pool I have played.I think It's going to have to be something that HAS to racked the same way every time.About a ball rolling over It...What about when a ball drifts off or rolls out for some strange reason. No big deal.

I even liked the sardo rack untill certain players started putting It way above the spots so they could screw ya that way.I wish someone would come up with something.Think I will and get rich.lol John B.

Jay Helfert stated they had trouble getting the last row of two balls touching and he speculated the rack was defective.

I use it all the time, have bought 4 sets over the last couple years. One set was a little off on the second row, I have to "work" them together. Here's the trick: Put the #'s of the balls touching together - not sure if there's extra paint there that closes the distance or what, but it helps. Also you can push the balls from behind while providing resistance from above.

I love the MR because I HATE how so many opponents rack and leave gaps. Screw slug racks, give me the MR!

I just bought a set of the black magic racks. I haven't used them yet, except just to place the balls and see if they all freeze. In that respect, it's good. I've been using the Slug Doctor setup (sold by someone on here a while back) and I liked it a lot. The only problem I saw with it was getting the template lined up correctly to not have a tilted rack. I haven't seen the 15 paper reinforcement circles alter the course of a ball, but I suspect the MR might be a little thicker. I'm interested to see if the MR edges curl or otherwise lift above the table surface; this is where an adhesive product like the slug doctor may have an edge.

My 4 sets of MR never had any significant curl. We stopped using the MR because the pool hall decided to use the "reinforcement holes" set-up - not sure what brand it was. It worked good for a couple months and for whatever reasons, we started getting gaps. So we removed it, put a new one on, and immediately had gaps on that one. OFF IT WENT - and back to the MR we are! :)

And yes, on rare occasion the MR can affect a very slow rolling ball. Small price to pay for a perfect rack IMO.

Matt <-- takes 10-15 seconds to rack on the MR
