I talked to my lil Buddy Gary Abood yesterday & he was feeling like crap...Talked to Ricky P from New Orleans today...He asked if I talked to Gary..said just for a minute yesterday...He told me Jamie Farrell was hanging with Gary whole time at the tourney & now he is back in New Orleans sick with the swine flu..Gary didnt answer his phone or tex me back...was just wondering if anybody else that attended has the flu now ?:shocked:

Not trying to knock the tourney by no means...Just more out of concern since they say it's going around right now....wonder if it will affect the Galveston tournement any...hope not..

I was at the Texas Open and I have had the flu since Wed. Not swine flu based on symptoms I've read online, tho.

Maybe all the players should wear those hospital masks during the tournament, just to be safe.

oh ok...The swine flu comment was from Ricky P not Jamie himself...& I called plus texed Gary to see how he was feeling and havn't heard back from him..He is pre-signed up to play in the 1 pocket and 8 ball..so don't even know if he's there trying to suck it up n play sick or not....Guess the flu bug is spreading pretty fast in some places...our local newspaper says we have it bad down here in the schools but i don't know any adults that caught it yet...Hope u get to feeling better trigger.

i was there and got sick the next day (tuesday) just a small cold but i dont have the flu, i took nyquil and fell much better. so no swine flu

I would say if you have the flu or any symptoms to consider getting tested for swine flu. It sounds stupid, but you never know. I got really sick when I came back from overseas and the doctor made me do the test. It only takes a second, a quick swab up the nose and you get results in 10 minutes. Better to be safe then sorry.

Hope everyone gets feeling better.

Very good advice Sarah. And in case it was the pig flu everyone that was there would want to know. Johnnyt

Joe Martinez was there with me and competed and he has been very sick since he got back, he now has an upper respiratory infection.

ADVICE: If you feel any flu like symptoms this year at all, go to the doctor so they can give you anti-viral flu meds in the first 48 hours. If they do not catch it in the first 48 hours then meds are ineffective...

you have to do this... i did it. What sarah fails to tell you though is that those 3 seconds while the swab is up your nose is one of the most uncomfortable horrible things you will ever do. still worth it though

I didn't think it that uncomfortable...but I have a big nose. Johnnyt

Lol

Most Flu bugs will have incubation periods. You will not immediately start feeling bad once infected.

It sounds to me that the flu bug has been brought to Texas by some coon asses!

Just kidding of course.:grin-square:

I am fine and was there for 53hrs+. Of course next week could be a different story!

Hope everyone feels better real soon!!

all i know is it felt like someone was poking the bottom of my eye near my sinus with a needle when they did it. Maybe my doc was bad at it or something..... my eyes were watering for about half an hour afterwards

Maybe you weren't as kissable as some of the other guys??? j/k

Since my heart attacks, the way my body reacts to most any new meds I take, I'm almost afraid to get the flu shot.

From what I hear, the flu could be a real bad thing for some folks and might not really bother others. I'm thinking more and more about wearing a mask anytime I go out to a fairly big event. Maybe I'll just make some fabric masks. They might not be as reliable, but they'd be better than nothing and I might actually be able to breathe through them, too. I absolutely hate the way my glasses fog up and I can't hardly breathe through the store-bought masks.

No kidding about that...!!

I had the test done on Thursday (negative) and my nose was bleeding afterwards for about 10 minutes...

It felt like someone had stuck a red hot poker in my nostril...

They actually got a lab tech or someone to come in and hold my head still because they knew the natural reation is to pull away...

A little warning would have been nice...

I've done the cotton swab flu test several times, and although it's very uncomfortable and sometimes painfull, for the most part..........well worth getting the info and not having to wonder just how sick you may or may not be. And, as I raced road bikes in my early 20s, which sometimes can lead to yeast infections, I've had much more painfull experiences with doctors and cotton swabs!
On a more serious note however, many people underestimate the enviornment involved with playing pool when it comes to infectious diseases. Think about how much contact with balls, rails, damp cloth, cues, chalk you come into that has been handled by who knows who, and how many of those "who knows who" types. I've always made sure to wash my hands after playing pool.

I was there almost as long as Bigtruck and I feel fine! I'll let you know if I catch something besides VD though.
