Cuemaker out of Louisiana?? Last heard of in a jam for running off with a truckload of cues from a Vegas tournament, or so goes the *legend*.
 
Hey Doc you going to hollywood tonite? Remind me and I will tell you an interesting story about Creole Freddie.
 
Freddie Yates. He used to write some stuff for The Snap magazine about 15 years ago.

Kreole Freddie Yates was one of the writer/editors of "On the Snap" magazine at one time. He made cues with David Barber for a couple of years. I knew him quite well and really could not believe what happened.

I usually travel back to Alabama a couple of times a year. Every time I went back, I would go over to Herman and Ann's or Pockets in Dothan and shoot pool/BS with some of the guys. Freddie was one of those guys. He was a ton of fun to listen to. I could see how he became a writer, but anyway...

Freddie was arrested in Dothan, Alabama and accused of stealing cues from either Wisconsin or Minnesota...can't really remember which. He always said that the cues he was caught with were cues that he picked up in what he believed were legitimate deals with folks as he traveled around the country. It was a very believable scenario, but unfortunately the jury apparently did not buy it. Last I heard, he was doing time for cue theft.

I have had several Kreole Freddie cues. They were very similar to David Barber's cues...3/8x10 wood to wood joint. They played real well...very solid. Some of Freddie's cues did not have the best of finish on them. I think that was David Barber's specialty when they were making cues together, but I am not certain of it. I had a couple of his cues refinished, and they were real sweet after that...real long points. Most of his cues that I had wound up with my friend Larry Krebbs of K.O. Corral in Enterprise, Al. He was a real fan of Freddie's work and was more than floored by what happened.
 
We have plain jane cue that Freddie made. I don't think it has a finish on it but does have a nice hit to it. I think we got it from Daivd Barber with some of his cues we bought.

I bought the last couple of cues that Freddie had made from his wife after everything had gone south for them. They were very nice cues...no inlays, but long points with veneers. Last I heard, Larry at K.O. had the cues put away.
