i just saw a commercial on tv and was wondering has anybody ever considered quibids an alternitive to ebay

Pay close attention to what the girl says at the end of the commercial. She says to enter a promotional code to recieve 10 free bids.I think that means they charge you a certain $ amount for each bid you place. So those 60 inch tv`s for $75 bucks is the auction price but not the overall price you pay since you still have to pay for your bids.
I have never been to their site so I`m guessing on this one.

It's a genius format...you buy blocks of bids...and they cost .60 each

each time you bid, the price of the item goes up by .01. So if a TV sells for $50 bucks, it looks cheap but the math is:

$50 = 5000 pennies which equals 5000 bids at .60 each which means they made $3000 on that auction. Not a bad profit.

I don't think they actually allow you to sell products, only buy

It is genius

I looked into these sites a while back. Just curious, same as you were.

Penny auctions are ridiculous. You BUY each penny bid for a set price; somewhere around a dollar or less. The bidding starts at a super low minimum bid, say $5 for an iPad. Each bid increases by a penny increment. But, Each penny bid costs A LOT more. The winning bidder gets the item at the final price.

So… advertisements of $23.42 iPads are true, but… it really cost the collective bidders somewhere around $2100!!! The winner gets it for $23.42 plus the value for all his penny bids.

If this was all there is to it, it might be a reasonable way to score an expensive item cheap. But… most of the sites have weird and esoteric rules governing bidding. Like, only allowing you to bid over a preset range you commit to before the auction. Or, allowing certain power bidders to set up auto-topper bids to guarantee they'll always bid a penny higher than the latest bid. The result is that it's as much about luck as it is about bidding.

For me, no thanks.

IT'S A TRAP!!!!

Don't fall for the BS advertisements.

I would say quibids is the safest one to use. I've tried a few of them and have been lucky. But it's basically like a form of gambling. You buy packs of bids and each bid is worth 60 cents. You try to wait until only a few people are left and start bidding and hope you have more bids than the other guy. The good thing about quibids is that any bids you purchase and use towards an item allows you to offset the cost of the item. For example, an iPad costs 500 and you buy 500 worth of bids and lose the auction, you get the iPad at cost.

I used to use beezid which works the same but no guarantee. I did get lucky a few times. For 200 bucks worth of bids I got an iPad 2 , a 42 inch plasma and an Xbox. But it's common practice for certain bidders to overpay to ensure they get the item. I've read about people paying 1500 for an iPhone and not seem to care. It's easier to burn up your cash on that site against those people.

I looked into this once. It sure was a great concept. For the buyers however, it amounts to no more than a roulette wheel spin for your bid.

You don't win until the wheel stops, and the wheel doesn't stop till the bidding stops, and the price increases by "X" amount of dollars with each bid.

You never know how many bids you will have to submit before the one that is the final winning bid.

Unlike EBay, each bid costs you money, not only your final bid, but all bids. In fact you may never reach a winning bid before you run out of barrels to throw at the merchandise.

Nothing more than a crap shoot.

In fact, I'm often surprised the US Government allows this total blind lottery to go on, when they disallow poker that at least offers some measure of skill to win something.

I actually won a bid at quibids a year ago. Got a 55" LG HD TV for $110 plus 15 in shipping. You have to get real lucky though; tried a couple bids after that and didn't win anything so gave up on it. I will say when i won though they were very efficient shipping me the tv; got it right away; unpacked and set up where I wanted it. oh and by the way; I actually have good luck at roulette; go figure... but the above poster is right it is much like a roulette spin. You have to pay close attention to what the product sold at last time and kind of go from there. good way to blow throw some money without actually winning anything though. I picked an auction that had a few people bidding; late at night and set a range.

I've done pretty well on Qbuids, but it has lot's to do with what you're trying to win. If you go after Oakley sunglasses, kitchen products, and other 'smaller' items, you stand a good chance. Goind after the big ticket items is much more difficult, and if not done right, could cost you your a$$. By doing it right I mean trying to win a very big item for a very little price. Qbids is set up so that any amount of money in bids you place towards an item that you don't win, can then be deducted from the 'retail' price of the item as credit if you choose to use the option of just purchasing the item outright. So, when going after a larger item, have the money to pay full retail price, play the game with a small chance of getting lucky and walking away with a huge discount price. If you don't win it, take what you spend on bids towards that item and use the "buy it now" option. End result, most likely you'll end up paying retail (slightly higher than the real market) but you're playing a game that gives you the opportunity to drop items and sick prices.
Be careful!

I lucked out one time, bid on a camera got it for $100.00, actual cost $489.00, they shipped it, i was surprised! Now i only go there if i really need something, not sure if Quibid sells you the item with your bid money if you did not win the bid, and your bit equal or exceed price of item, i know others do.

Qbids

Supposedly called penny auctions and been around forever. My nephew works for qbids, his first job out of college. Customer service guy. It's very confusing how it works which lures people in. Bids are $.60 instead of a dollar for whatever reason!? I finally just asked him one day, look me in the eye and tell me I should get involved. He said well, not really. And the worst part is you lose your bid (money) if you don't buy at the closing price!? Of course at a real auction you pay nothing if you don't win the bid.
