Anyone BREAK a Break cue?

Most people that are serious players usually get
a 2nd shaft for their playing cue in case they pop
a tip or something, but has anyone actually broke
a break cue or popped a break cue's tip off?

Seeing how a break cue takes more punishment, I
am trying to determine how important it may be to
have a 2nd shaft for a Break cue.

I am talking about a cue MADE for breaking.

I broke a cue ball once. Broke and a quarter of it flew off and hit my opponent feet. I've also broken the ferrule of my sneaky pete once breaking. Sounded like a gun going off.

I broke a break cue.
It was a cheap ebay sneaky with radial pin and no collar(s) at the joint.
I should have put some on there....
The shaft pretty much exploded at the joint (shaft end.)
I just epoxied it back together with a maple sleeve over the damaged part and added a collar.
And i'm still breaking with it now.
No harm done :D

Funny you should ask...

I've been shooting with a Predator BK break stick for about a year and just a few hours ago, at my 9-ball league, my tip came off. I guess I was due for a new one anyway, but it popped off on a break shot and it sent the cue ball flying off the table. Not the first time and probably not the last. Oh well.:)

I broke a couple of cues, one of them was a breaking Falcon cue and it cracked on the joint, so replacing shaft wouldn't do anything.
I also lost tip several times on my Scorpion breaking cue.

I was using a old players cue ( My first real shooter lol) as my break cue. Well I was breaking one night in ym practice games. As soon as I made contact with the cue ball. The forearm and shaft flew in front of me and the wrap and butt stayed in my hand........Whatever rod or whatever is in the cue boke and you could tell the stick wasnt all one peice of wood..... But now it makes one hell of a jump cue :):):)

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking the same thing. I was just pricing them yesterday. I have a Cue Tec 99296 and they are $76.00.
I also have a Sterling B/J i have not priced the shaft on that one yet. I can't seem to find a web site that sell's them? anyone know any?
I have the space in both cases so i figure why not.:)

I think Oliver Ortmann destroyed his break cue's ferrule in a tournament a few years ago. Can't remember though if he had a spare shaft or borrowed a cue or something to finish the match/tournament.

In the last year i've shattered the tip/ferrule on a Sledgehammer break cue and the tip on a Stinger!! Both were fixed free of charge because of the warrenty. Also snapped a house cue breaking while my Stinger was getting replaced, I've taken a little off my break since then! :D

I broke my phenolic tipped custom...the shaft exploded at the joint. My friend's sledgehammer broke the same way. Also cracked a couple of ferrules.

My reasoning ...

behind this thread is because I got a J&J break/jump
4 pointer off Ebay cheap (from Carlscues), and was
surprised at the quality of it. It has a 14mm shaft
with the 1/2" phenolic ferrule and tip. Seems real solid,
but I have the chance to pick up a 2nd shaft for it
off Ebay (from Carlscues) for $15-16 (about $30 total
with shipping and insurance).

I just thought it might not be a bad idea to have a 2nd
shaft, and I do plan to get an Xbreaker a little later on,
and I could keep the J&J as a backup, or sell it at that
time, and would not have a problem at all, especially having
2 shafts for it.

So, I was just trying to see how many people have had
problems with their break cues.

A friend of mine has crushed ferrules on his Predator BK1 2 times and the third is starting to bulge. Predator has thus far replaced them every time.

I have snapped the shafts of 3 separate break cues. I have had 3 tips pop of and have cracke 2 ferrules.

I broke right above the collar on the shaft when I first started playing. At the time I thought it was a piece of crap cue, which it was, but then after a while I realized that I was leaning too hard on the shaft on follow through. Every shaft will either break or possibly stay bent if you break like that.

I say get the extra shaft. As everyone can attest to, stuff breaks under extreme force / pressure. I myself have cracked joint collars, ferules, and phenolic tips! I've also popped off about a half dozen tips from breaking, and had to soft break with my playing cue until my break shaft was retipped. Do I wish I had an extra break shaft for all those times? YES!

I've broke two. One at the ferrul and the other at the joint. At the moment i carry 2 break cues with me as i dont have a spare shaft for either of them!

I have knocked tips off break cues before.

On my current one, I broke the tennon. The cue has a one piece ferrule/tip.

I've knocked the tips off my break cue several times, but since I've switched to a phenollic it hasn't happened (knock on wood) yet. The butt cap on my break cue has come loose too, I'm pretty sure that's from breaking because I keep my cues in my case when I'm not using them.

I also cracked my knuckle on my grip hand when it came into contact with the table once when I was breaking. At the time I was working on keeping my cue level
