i should show you the other ferrule installed same day. it has distinct greyish line. aprrox. 1/16th inch wide the length of the ferrule. that is not caused by the tip dust. it was there before the tip was put on. do you think it just might possibly be shitty material??? if it's faulty procedure, wouldn't all of them be bad??? i don't have this problem with other ferrules. ivorine 4 is just as porous if not more porous as the LBM's. my solution is, i won't buy lbm's anymore, period. i'll go elsewhere for different ferrules. i've been considering making my own material. i'm going to get some dirt/junk/crud and add some lbm to it. and sell them for 50 cents. exactly what they are worth

Was that visible in the ferrule before you installed it? I am sorry I was not being critical, just if the problem is from something migrating into the pores of the material it is preventable. I know what you mean by the line. If I remember the original Agges, (not sure how it is spelled), all seemed to look like that. I got some real nice stuff from Prather a while back. I don't even remember what it is but I got a bunch of it after getting a sample and it is nice to work with and plays well. It is a little softer then LBM.

no sir, it was white as snow until it got to close to 13mm. i tape off the ferrule and sand edge of tip flush, then usually finish off wet sanding the ferrule. but this appeared before i wet sanded.

From what you are describing it's hard to hold Atlas responsible. These materials are industrial materials that have been adapted to cues. Most are not manufactured for their esthetics. They run this stuff I would suspect not in an environment resembling an operating room and being such a white material it is easy to see how some of what is run could get contaminated. I'm sure they run other materials, not white, on the same machinery they run this stuff. There has always been this problem and it was just part of using this kind of material. The worst is when it appears just on your last cut and you have to do the whole job over.

yeah, that's the killer. oh well. all part of the fun i guess . by the way, i'm not blaming atlas for anything. prolly just a bad batch and of course, i get them. the last bunch i bought about 6 months ago were fine.
