I don't know if it was that British thread but I think it started even before that but snooker shows up in a lot more threads than I remember. And before mr obvious points it out this thread is doing that as well, I think it's a valid point. I personally like snooker and watch videos all the time and I am also lucky enough to have a hall with three tables. But why the upswing, is it bc it's more accepted as a legit sport in Britain or is it the technical side of it?

It's that time of year for snooker....the world snooker championship just finished.
Lot more people talk golf when the Masters is being played.

World Snooker Championship just finished on Monday. Was two weeks long. So that could be a temporary reason for an uptick. Or do you mean further back than that?

Yeah, The World Snooker Championship always brings about a renewed interest in Snooker for those who follow it, but Snooker is growing, after a decline in the early 2000's after smoking sponsorship was banned and tools got involved with the management of the sport.

Since Barry Hearn, who runs the Mosconi Cup and various other sports events got involved, the sport has been growing and I think it will continue to grow.

For me, snooker is much more interesting to watch that 8,9 or 10 ball US styles. imho, the players are a grade above too.

Maybe that could be the reason. Either way I think snooker in the us is growing. Not sure if it's a good thing or bad. But I'm gonna start practicing😜

Not two weeks - more like a month
Qualifiers started April 8- 15
Best of 19

Championship - April 18 - May 4
First round - Best of 19
Second Round - Best of 25
Quarter Finals - Best of 25
Semi Finals - Best of 33
Final - Best of 35

It's not just the time of year. There was an upswing before the World Championship appeared on the horizon. Partly Corey and Alex, partly Ronnie O'Sullivan being touted as the bees knees and partly the unstoppable march of the internet - anyone with a serious interest in cue sports can watch as much snooker as they like. And watch Shane on YouTube, click on a link to Earl, then Earl playing Steve Davis, then snooker, etc, etc. And the reverse - players from countries/regions with a snooker background who can now watch as much "American" pool as they like will add to the debate.

All healthy - it's a billiards forum.

The best thing about it all for me is Corey Deuel saying that how he does in snooker isn't as important as finding one shot that snooker players use that he can use in pool.

One of reasons is dearth of 9ft pool events . All events recently were on kiddie baby 7 ft tables which are turnoff and push many to watch snooker . There is also a lot of nonsense in pool with own racking instead of ref racking, self refereeing instead of ref refereeing.

Most tournament are on 7 footers which is a turn off for most. Snooker requires more precision which makes it enjoyable to watch. Running balls that are 3 feet from a 5 inch bucket is too easy.
